Alexander laughed, refilling Dominic's glass. "Didn't you say she couldn't have become invisible?"
"I want to see how she makes a fool of herself," Dominic replied bluntly, his eyes wide. Alexander laughed. "Well, I'll let you know when we catch her."
After dinner and conversation, they heard a flurry of approaching footsteps. Galen excitedly hurried over. "Daddy, is that you?!" A maid followed closely behind.
"Daddy!" Galen threw his arms around Alexander. "It's really you, Daddy!"
"Yes, it's me," Alexander said, his voice thick with emotion as he held his son and inhaled his scent. He missed Galen terribly and didn't want to let go.
"You little rascal!" Dominic said sternly, though a smile played on his lips.
"What about my hug?" Galen pouted, turning to Dominic.
"You're drinking again!"
"What do you care? My dad came to pick me up. Can't I celebrate a little?"
Elated, Galen turned to his father. "Daddy, is that true? Are you bringing me home?"
"Yes, I am," Alexander replied, nodding in surprise as he looked at Dominic. "How did youโ"
"How did I know you're taking him back?" Dominic snorted. "Since the twins returned home, I figured you'd want to bring Galen back, too." A wave of sentimentality washed over the older man. "Nowadays, even a family reunion is hard to come by, isn't it?" Alexander's expression mirrored his sadness.
Galen, not fully understanding, asked, "Have my brother and sister returned? Has Mommy returned?"
"Mommy hasn't come back yet," Alexander said, holding his son's shoulders. "She still has something to do. She'll come back after that."
Galen looked so disappointed that both men felt a pang of sympathy.
"Yes, I'm sure she will!" Alexander affirmed.
"Your mom's a tough one, okay? She'll be fine," Dominic said steadily, his sincerity unclear.
"It's late. We should get going," Alexander said, checking his watch. Traveling late was unsafe, and he was needed at home.
"Goodbye then!" Dominic waved. "Come visit when Lily returns, okay?"
"We will," Alexander replied, rising and carrying his son. Galen waved back. "Bye-bye, Grandpa!"
"Bye!" Dominic didn't see them off. Instead, he slowly looked up at the darkening sky and sighed deeply after the father and son's footsteps faded.
