Chapter 229
Lily slept deeply, not because of a tiring day in the lab, but because… she had been experimenting in a specific field. She discovered that men and women naturally have different endurance levels in certain areas. For example, Alexander had woken up early for a company meeting. Lily wasn't even sure what time he left. Vaguely, she remembered him kissing her forehead just before he departed; she couldn't recall anything before that. She fumbled around and found her vibrating cell phone. Holding it to her ear, she said, "Hello?"
"Lily, it's me." Olivia's energetic voice filled the line.
"Huh, it's still so early. Don't you want more rest?" Lily mumbled, half-asleep. She tossed and turned, feeling too tired to move.
"Early?" Olivia checked the time. "It's almost six o'clock. How is that early?"
"Six o'clock? Six o'clock isn't early?" Lily's exhausted brain struggled to process this. She was about to hang up.
"Lily, it's six o'clock in the evening. Surely you don't think it's six o'clock in the morning?"
"Six o'clock in the evening isn't early? H-Huh?!" Lily's senses slowly returned. "What? Six o'clock in the evening?!"
She couldn't believe it. She picked up her phone and checked the time. Sure enough, it was almost six p.m.
Stunned for a moment, she leaped out of bed, ran barefoot to the window, pulled open the curtains, and peered out. The setting sun seemed to mock her for having missed a whole day of sunlight.
"W-What? Did I sleep for a whole day?"
"Lily, did you sleep from last night until now?" Olivia asked, though it was obvious.
Lily grabbed her hair and sat down in the chair by the window. Despite knowing the time, she still felt tired. She gazed at the distant red sky and sighed. "Oh well, who cares what time it is? Isn't it a holiday today?"
"It's not that. Yesterday, you agreed to go out with Jenny to celebrate. What time is it now?" Olivia gently reminded her, implying she shouldn't forget. Lily hadn't forgotten; she just hadn't considered it urgent. "We can go any day. I'll call her and see when she's free."
The lab was on break, allowing Lily and Olivia some relaxation, but Jenny couldn't relax; she carried the responsibility of her entire department. Therefore, they should adjust to her schedule. "Sure. Then you set a time with Jenny. I'm free anytime." Olivia was looking forward to it; it was the first happy occasion since her job change, making it worth celebrating.
Lily was about to hang up when Olivia said urgently, "Uh…"
"What is it?" Lily lazily put the phone back to her ear.
"Y-Yesterday, the boss talked about a trip to celebrate…" Olivia hesitated, but she was excited about it. "Did he tell you where we're going?"
"Um, no."
Lily supported herself as she stood, went to the washroom to freshen up, placing her phone aside. She squeezed toothpaste onto her toothbrush and began brushing her teeth.
With a mouth full of bubbles, she heard Olivia say in surprise, "Huh? Didn't you both talk about it last night after you got home? I thought…"
