Chapter 240

It was the same as before. She smelled alcohol on him but couldn't question it. She could only cover her nose and frown. "Did you drink?"

"Is your nose that sensitive?" He smiled indifferently and moved closer.

"Can you smell what I've eaten?"

The smell of alcohol intensified as he approached, making her feel sick. She took a few steps back. "Don't do that!"

"Don't tell me you're shy. This is part of your training. You need a sensitive nose to be a perfumer, right?" Frank laughed and reached for her cheek. Melanie wanted to end the conversation. "Okay, stop playing! Time is running out; we need to solve this quickly. Remember your promise? Can you do this in your current condition?"

"Do you think I can?" Frank pressed the elevator button, giving her a meaningful look. Melanie was speechless.

They arrived at the locked research lab. The equipment was put away, but thankfully, she knew where the failed samples were. Feeling uneasy, she carefully switched on the light.

Only the night-duty guard was present. She'd informed him she'd be working late and not to be disturbed. After instructing the guard, she took the elevator to the basement parking lot and waited for Frank.

This ensured they wouldn't be interrupted while they investigated the formula's problem. "Come and see!" Melanie went to the counter and placed some small bottles.

"These are the recently failed samples. They were made exactly according to your formula. The proportions are accurate, but the smell is wrong. They seem impure; they don't smell pure." Melanie stressed this; her future depended on it. "I think one ingredient might be the problem. Could it be the lavender? I think it might conflict with your other ingredients. What do you think?" After a pause, she turned to find Frank leaning against the table, seemingly asleep. Anger surged.

"Frank! You promised you'd help! How could you do this?" She kept her voice low but angry. "I took a break; I'm tired. Don't make a fuss! The smell is slightly different—it's not a big deal," Frank stretched, speaking lazily.

"The environment, humidity, and temperature all affect the result. This is basic. Don't tell me you don't understand?" He strolled past her, took the bottles, and sniffed them.

"Trash!" He tossed them in the nearby trash can.

"W-Wait!" Melanie was too slow to stop him.

"What if I'm discovered tomorrow?!"

He smirked. "Tomorrow? You'll have successful products tomorrow. Why keep these trash products?"

"Are you serious?!" Melanie's anger turned to excitement.

"Look at you. You can't control your emotions!" Frank shook his head and went to the supply room for raw materials and tools. "Even if your products are successful, people will see through your lies if you act like this." Melanie watched intently, unable to contain her excitement. He held the key to her bright future!
