Listen to this chapter:

Rhea had no idea what deal Lily had made with Yasmin. After all, the queen had appointed Rhea to oversee the laboratory only two days prior.

Rhea knew Lily was different. She resented the favoritism Lily received. Lily, from Rhea's perspective, didn't seem serious about her experiments.

"Whatever," Lily said casually, glancing at Rhea. "Snitch if you want."

Rhea's aching hand fueled her irritation.

"Do you think I won't? You're not the queen's only favorite! Don't forget why you're here, Lily. There are no VIP guests in this embassy," Rhea retorted, turning to leave.

Lily watched Rhea go, her smile fading. She knew she wasn't the queen's favorite. Yasmin, though seemingly kind, was deeply selfish. Otherwise, she wouldn't have clung to the throne for so long, ignoring her son's pleas to end the experiment. Lily believed only a viable alternative could change Yasmin's mind.

Rhea was right to think Lily was merely going through the motions. Lily knew achieving immortality was impossible and refused to waste her life on such a futile endeavor. She never intended to develop it; prolonging life through cell regeneration was possible, but incredibly time-consuming. Lily's priority was to appear to be experimenting, presenting a finished product later. The experiment's success or failure was irrelevant; Yasmin and her experts wouldn't understand it.

Even Rhea, bright and experienced, had failed to grasp Lily's research. Since Yasmin trusted Lily, others would accept her claims. Lily had one goal: rescuing Nick.

She didn't care if she died at the embassy, with or without the queen, as long as Nick escaped. However, she wouldn't die without destroying the research, ensuring it could harm no one again.

Meanwhile, Rhea stormed off to find Yasmin, only to be stopped by guards who informed her the queen was unavailable.
