Chapter 27
"I prefer tranquility, but someone will come to clean the house every two days or so," Alexander said, loosening his tie. "I'm going to take a shower while you rest."
"There is an empty walk-in closet where you can store your belongings," he added, then entered the room.
Lily was relieved by the sound of the shower. She needed time to adjust to the unfamiliar environment.
The mansion had about three floors, with a loft on the top. The loft wasn't very tall, but it was relatively spacious. The mansion's cold tones and clean lines—reminiscent of Alexander himself—created a stark, capable atmosphere.
The size of the walk-in closet staggered Lily as she carried in her bag. It was large enough to be a bedroom. Two cabinets held men's clothes; the rest were empty.
Lily didn't have much, so she hung her clothes before retrieving a small file containing important documents: her ID card, academic certificate, and other essentials. However, she realized her marriage certificate, obtained the previous day, was missing. Alexander had taken both certificates, and she would have to ask him about their location later.
Her phone rang. It was Nathaniel. She'd received more calls in the last two days than in the previous two months.
"Hello?" Lily answered lazily.
"Lily, where have you been?!" Nathaniel thundered skeptically. Did he mistake her for the previous Lily? "Since when have you been so concerned with my whereabouts, Mr. Hall?" Lily chuckled, sliding the file into a drawer.
Her tone irritated Nathaniel.
"Lily, can't you speak more politely?"
"I believe I've been speaking politely. How much more polite could I be?" Lily retorted, exiting the walk-in closet. Her husband, fresh from the shower, stood before her. His hair dripped wet; he wore only a large white bath towel. His physique was nearly flawless.
He glanced at her, noticed the phone call, and approached without speaking. As he drew closer, Lily's breath caught.
Nathaniel continued his barrage: "What do you mean by that? Did the company speak to you about anything? Did you meet with the people from Rebirth again? Do you still believe their nonsense? Don't be stupid, Lily. They tried to sow discord! We should be familiar with each other after all these years, especially after I've treated you well. Don't be mad; there's nothing between Mel and me. Stop thinking nonsense and come to MN Inc."
Lily heard a faint gasp, quickly covered by Nathaniel's words. Melanie was with him. Lily felt disgusted. He's so capable he can flirt with Mel while calling me? However, she lacked the time or inclination to engage with Nathaniel's nonsense. Alexander had completely captivated her.
He stood so close Lily could count the water droplets on his chest.
