Startled by Lily's aura, Nathaniel nodded repeatedly. "Yes, I know you didn't do it. Even if you did, the incident can't be as simple as a miscarriage. After all, you" He choked up, meeting Lily's gaze. "After all, I, too, have experienced it, and I know what you're capable of."

Lily rolled her eyes, ignoring him. "Nate, I don't care what tricks you're up to, or why you're fighting. It has nothing to do with me. I sent her to the hospital and asked you to settle the bills. I just want to make things clear. Provoke me again, and you'll regret it."

"Let's go," Lily said, disgusted by the encounter. She had only wanted to clarify things.

"Don't go, Lily!" Nathaniel grabbed for her hand. Lily deftly evaded him.

"Mel and I broke up," he said scornfully, after a pause. "I don't know why she went to find you. Maybe she couldn't accept reality."

He continued, "Still, I admit I still have feelings for you. I'm sorry for the past. Will you give me another chance?" He looked at her sincerely. Olivia, standing nearby, stared out the corridor window.

Is Nathaniel drunk? What kind of soap opera does he think this is? she thought.

"Give me a chance?" Lily sneered. "Okay. Make a public statement: I created all of MN Inc.'s past works, including the awards Melanie took credit for. Void all your honors and issue a public apology. Can you do that?"

Nathaniel was silent. "I'm okay with the apology and statement, but voiding the honors is too much. Besides, you were with MN Inc. then; those honors belong to both of us and the company. There's nothing wrong with that."

"So, you refuse?" Lily expected as much. His agreement would destroy MN Inc.

"Okay, I'll do it," he surprisingly agreed. "But I have one condition: You come back to MN Inc., and to me. I'll give you anything you want. We'll work together as before. Trust me. I'll compensate you for everything, and double it."

Lily snorted. "Nate, your wishful thinking is impressive. What about Mel?" (She was curious about his feelings, not genuinely concerned about Melanie.)

"I broke up with her. You don't have to worry. She has her own plans. If she needs me, I'll help within reason. I'll respect your wishes and cut ties with her completely if you want."

Nathaniel, believing Lily feared a renewed relationship with Melanie, swore to end it. Lily and Olivia watched him with contempt. He had betrayed Lily, stealing her achievements and honors. Now, he abandoned Melanie without hesitation, showing no affection.

What a jerk! How did Lily ever fall for him? Probably the worst decision of her life! Olivia thought.
