Chapter 303
"What did you say?!" Melanie's face fell. She was about to continue when someone approached, saying, "Hi, Ms. Christian. We meet again."
Lily raised her eyebrows. Is that Frank? It seems these two came prepared. Did they come all the way here for me? Whatever it was, Lily wasn't the type to back down easily.
She smiled slightly at them. "It would seem you haven't learned your lesson, Mr. Moreau. Are you asking for another round?"
Frank, embarrassed by her sarcasm, recalled his previous defeat. "This is a public place, Ms. Christian. I don't think you'd be so reckless."
Confident that Lily wouldn't dare act up in public, he continued to provoke her. He hadn't expected her to be so skilled at kickboxing, which made it difficult for him to get his way with her. However, this only fueled his desire to conquer her. It would be quite a feat to win over such a woman.
"Sorry, I'm reckless by nature. If anyone comes looking for trouble, they can't blame me for stretching my muscles," Lily retorted, clenching her fingers with a sharp crack.
Melanie's face fell at the sound. She hadn't witnessed Lily's abilities firsthand, but based on Frank's description and Nathaniel's fear, she knew Lily wasn't someone to be trifled with. Therefore, Melanie opted for manipulation instead of force. After a moment's consideration, she smiled and said, "Everyone's just playing around. Why take it so seriously?"
"Lily, you and Mr. Moreau may have gotten off on the wrong foot. I brought him here to apologize. We're in a foreign country; we should be united."
Lily admired Melanie's rapid change of expression. One second she was insulting Lily; the next, she was advocating unity as compatriots.
"In the same boat with someone like you? I'd rather drown," Lily replied, then ignored Melanie and walked away.
"What a bitch!" Melanie hissed, watching Lily go, and angrily clenched her skirt.
"Forget about it," Frank said intently. "Lily can't be arrogant for too long. Where does she think she is? We're in Woodland, the capital of perfumery. She's a nobody here!" His contempt was evident. He'd only cooperated with Melanie because he believed he could easily subdue Lily here.
Soon after, Giselle bumped into Lily. "Lily, didn't you go to the washroom? I didn't see you there."
"Maybe you missed me," Lily excused, wanting to leave. "I don't feel well. Maybe it's food poisoning. Let's go back."
Giselle frowned. "But I just saw the organizer and came to get you. We should at least greet the host before leaving. Otherwise, it would be rude."
