Chapter 34
โMs. Christian, do you really have evidence, or are you fabricating it? Have you considered the repercussions if this case goes to court?โ Lily looked calmly around, facing the skeptical crowd. Her relaxed demeanor and quiet aura calmed the noisy onlookers.
She parted her lips slightly and exclaimed, โBring on the lawsuit!โ Lily knew leaving wouldnโt be easy, but she hadnโt expected Nathaniel to intercept her in the alley. Hadnโt he just been with Melanie? Why was he still here? Nathanielโs face was gloomy; his hands were in his trouser pockets as he leaned against the wall.
The fact that his entire body was concealed in shadow added to his grim appearance. Lilyโs steps were hesitant; she tried to ignore him and leave, but someone unexpectedly blocked her path.
It explained why Nathaniel had been whispering to several people before leavingโwas he explaining the situation? If so, it was probably the first time heโd ever shown concern for her.
Unable to proceed, Lily walked up to Nathaniel and asked, โIs this a threat, Mr. Hall? Or a kidnapping?โ Nathaniel straightened and walked toward her.
He remained calm, but his body seethed with rage. His leather shoes made a crisp, pounding sound on the floor with each step. He instinctively glanced around, noting the absence of security cameras. Heโd clearly chosen a secluded location. How discreet.
โLily,โ he called softly. His voice was light, but his words were heavy. โWhat the hell are you doing?โ
โArenโt you aware of what Iโm doing?โ she replied coldly.
โHavenโt we agreed before?โ Nathaniel struggled to maintain his patience. He tried one last time to convince her. โWhat do you mean by that? Are you sure you want to go against the company and me? What did Rebirth promise you? Donโt be so naive. Do you think the others will treat you as superior?โ He continued angrily in a low voice, โTheyโre just using you as a pawn. Our company has experienced rapid growth, and the competition is fierce. Many tactics are used to undermine opponents. You donโt understand this at all. Do you think theyโll treat you well if you donโt deliver results? If MN Inc. collapses, theyโll discard you.โ
Nathaniel believed Rebirth had initiated the problems. No one knew the terms theyโd offered Lily or what theyโd said to her. It was unethical, however. Lily had never prioritized profit over principle.
Could it be his affair with Melanie? Unlikely! She would have reacted if she'd known.
Lily looked at him with admiration. How could he tell so many lies with such an unchanging expression? He was so sincere and concerned, yet showed no sign of guilt.
โLily, stop being obsessive. Donโt you care about our relationship? There are limits, even to your tantrums. If you continue like this, things will only worsen.โ Nathaniel raised his hand to touch her shoulder. โDid someone from Rebirth contact you again? Youโฆโ
โI called them.โ Glancing at her shoulder, Lily gently shrugged him off.
