Chapter 356
If Lily told Alexander that Frank planned to inject her with drugs, she might be unable to prevent Alexander from killing Frank.
After some thought, Lily said, "I heard the kidnappers talking about it when I woke up. They must have held me somewhere. The police should have confiscated the drugs as evidence." Alexander listened quietly. His hand, gripping hers, tightened, revealing his nervousness.
*'The kidnappers had drugs there? What if she accidentally touched them, or worse, what if they used them on her?!' He dared not think further. "Let's go home," Alexander emphasized.
He wanted to take her home; he couldn't allow Lily to stay in such a dangerous place. The thought of the consequences—a delayed rescue, his failure to rush to her side—filled him with self-reproach.
Lily leaned obediently on his shoulder, but sat up straight at his words. "No way! I still have the final competition to participate in."
"You don't need to go," Alexander said firmly. The competition, the prize—everything was insignificant. His only concern was Lily's safety.
"B-But" Lily was speechless, but understood his worry. She sighed softly, yielding to his wishes. Feigning disappointment, she said, "Oh well, I guess I won't participate. I've prepared well and am confident of winning, but it doesn't matter. Rebirth and Giselle will be disappointed, but that's okay. Nothing is more important than you. No one would argue with you. I could stay home, be a housewife, go to the spa, shop, have fun—live an easy life."
Despite her words, Alexander saw her reluctance. He knew she was saying this for him. He understood her dreams and had always supported them, but he'd almost withdrawn that support. He looked at her pretty face, noticing the unwillingness in her expression. If he agreed, she might wilt.
Alexander sighed. "Fine. You can go, but promise me you'll prioritize your safety. Nothing is more important than your life."
"I know. You're the best." Lily kissed his cheek and smiled.
Alexander shook his head. "That's it?"
"What?"
He put his hand behind her head, leaning in to kiss her. "I want it like this." Their lips met, her sweet scent filling his senses. Only then did he feel at ease. Even the slightest possibility of harm to Lily was unbearable.
He closed his eyes and hugged her tighter.
