Chapter 362
"It's not written on your face, but in your eyes. Your eyes seem wise," he said, speaking fluently in English. "You're very well-spoken."
Lily offered an irrelevant compliment instead of responding directly. "Thank you."
The man readily seized the opportunity, introducing himself generously. "Hello, my name is Noah." He smiled and extended a hand toward her.
Lily rose, but had no interest in shaking hands. "It's time," she replied. The organizers had arrived and requested their return to the venue.
The sudden silence was a welcome change. Returning to her seat, she saw Noah sitting diagonally behind her. No wonder she hadn't recognized him earlier.
Noticing her gaze, Noah enthusiastically waved. Lily glanced at him, then turned away with a blank expression. Why is this guy so enthusiastic about a stranger? she thought.
"Everyone's answer sheets have been reviewed. After careful consideration, we've decided to announce the final results now. However, before the announcement, Mr. Parker has something to say and would like to address everyone." The examiner rose and left.
"Mr. Parker, please."
Warm applause greeted a regal-looking, meticulously dressed older man as he entered. His well-pressed suit and steady, powerful gait commanded attention. He walked to his seat, surveyed the room, and sat down. Lily thought she saw his eyes linger on her for a fraction of a second, but perhaps it was her imagination. Was it because of Lisa? Although Mr. Parker is stubborn, he should disdain nepotism, she mused.
"I'm pleased to see you all. Those of you who made it here are the best of the best from the past two years," Mr. Parker cleared his throat. Before the audience could express their happiness, his face fell. "But I'm also heartbroken by your earlier behavior. What happened to professionalism?"
His words confused the crowd. No one understood his meaning. He'd silenced their cheers, replacing them with embarrassment and awkwardness. Lily found this slightly amusing, but remained silent.
"Mr. Parker, why do you say this? Criticize us if we've done something wrong. Did someone upset you?" one participant grumbled.
"Mr. Parker, the test questions were designed to be confusing. Neither of them was your work, right?" another suggested.
