Chapter 390
Lily didn't look as though she were talking nonsense. The little boy's complexion, though fair and cute, was pale and unhealthy, causing concern. "How did this"
"It might be hereditary, but it's not certain. The world is vast; incurable diseases exist, and this isn't unusual," he said calmly and reservedly, without a sigh, as if it were a commonplace ailment.
Seeing Lily's pitying gaze, the boy proactively said, "Miss, I'm not uncomfortable. I'm used to it. It doesn't matter." His forced cheerfulness only highlighted his discomfort. He was just a child, so young yet so sensible, even comforting Lily. What a good child.
"There's no cure? Like you said, the world is so big; there might be a possibility."
Mike shook his head. "I've seen many doctors, but this ailment is quite unique, possibly a genetic allergy. It's difficult to cure." His words clearly indicated his awareness of the condition's severity.
"Well, Nick is still young, and technology and medicine are improving. We might be able to cure it someday! Besides, his condition is stable now. Even with a strict diet, we can still eat other delicious food, right?" Lisa said jokingly, attempting to lighten the mood.
Nick smiled shyly.
"Yes, it's a long-term issue," Mike said, changing the subject. "By the way, I heard about your victory in the perfume-tasting competition. Congratulations!" He raised his wine glass. "Congratulations!"
"Thank you!" Lily raised her glass. Lisa chimed in, "Me too! Lily, you're amazing! My dad raved about you. He rarely praises anyone!" Lily smiled. "Thank you!"
"Don't just say thank you. Why did you reject my dad's invitation? You could have stayed here, and we could meet often!"
Lisa added regretfully, "Could it beโฆ bad to stay here and develop your career?"
Mike's interest was piqued. "Yes. The perfume industry in Westwood is the most prosperous in the world. Staying there offers greater development and opportunity. Why not?"
Lily had been asked this question before. She smiled lightly. "It's excellent here, but I want to go back and develop my career at home."
"Lily's a patriot," Mike said meaningfully.
"It's not patriotism, exactly. More likeโฆ reminiscing." It was about home, friends, and loved onesโthe ties that bound her, the reasons she was reluctant to leave.
