Chapter 396
"Okay," Lily nodded, following George to his office. He closed the door, peeked out, and then pulled down the blinds, creating an air of mystery. He didn't completely block the outside view, however. "Ms. Christian," he said.
Lily was confused. Why the sudden change in address?
"I didn't know about your relationship with Alexander earlier. Please forgive any offense I may have caused," he said, scratching his nose a little embarrassedly. Lily understood. George, while aware Lily was assigned by headquarters, hadn't known about her relationship with Alexander. After the kidnapping incident, it likely wouldn't remain secret much longer, though he still didn't know the nature of their relationship—only that one existed.
"Mr. Will, Mr. Russell, and I…"
"I don't know what your relationship is, but I won't ask. Don't worry, I'll keep it confidential. Since you can't discuss it openly at the company, I won't be able to favor you."
"I hope so!" Lily replied, nodding. "I also hope you won't treat me differently or give me special attention. I'm just an ordinary employee and want to do my job. I'm committed to growing with Rebirth!"
George stared at her, seeing sincerity in her eyes. Relieved, he said, "That's best. Still, given your relationship with Alexander, you could have joined La Beauté Group. Why Rebirth?"
Rebirth, while a subsidiary supported by La Beauté Group, was a small one. In terms of size, reputation, and assets, it paled in comparison. Why would she choose such a small company?
"Mr. Will, you know my situation when I arrived. Given my qualifications and the circumstances, I was delighted to join Rebirth. Although it's not large, I'm very satisfied. I appreciate the energy here, and I believe Rebirth has a bright future."
Her words pleased George.
"The possibilities for Rebirth's future development are, in my opinion, limitless!"
"Yes!" she nodded.
"Okay, then I'm relieved!" George sighed in relief. Alexander's inquiry about Lily had been weighing on him. He hadn't expected a lowly employee to be his boss's secret lover. Lately, he'd struggled to manage the situation. Her workload couldn't be too light or too heavy; he had to maintain secrecy, yet he couldn't help but treat her differently. It had been a difficult balancing act. Now, things were simpler.
"Alright, you can leave. You've been working hard; take some time off. I'll approve your leave!"
"No need. I'll get back to work," Lily said, smiling.
