Chapter 410

Nathaniel had been drinking heavily after feeling despondent. He’d never felt this way before; it felt as if everything was over.

“Hey, handsome, drinking alone is such a bore. Why don’t you join me?”

An attractive woman approached and flirted with him. Nathaniel looked up but, already quite intoxicated, couldn't make out who she was. “Sure, why not,” he slurred. Suddenly, someone shoved the woman aside, ignoring her protests.

Nathaniel roared, “Who are you?! How dare you…”

Before he could finish, someone grabbed him by the collar and dragged him to the bar entrance.

“W-Who are you? W-What are you doing?”

Slightly sobered by the cold night air, he shivered outside the bar. Though the commotion attracted attention, it was commonplace in a bar, and everyone soon returned to their revelry.

Bang!

He was shoved into the backseat of a car, the door slamming shut. Drunk and half-kneeling, he fought back nausea.

“How dare you?” he began, before someone splashed him with a glass of cold water. It was winter; he shivered and opened his eyes. “Are you sober now?”

He recognized the familiar voice. The car’s interior lights flickered on, revealing his mother’s arrogant yet beautiful face.

“Mother, waa…” Nathaniel cried, unleashing his pent-up frustration and anger. novelЄBOOK.COM He laid his head on Eloise’s lap and sobbed uncontrollably. He was like a child who’d been bullied, finally releasing his emotions to someone he trusted.

Eloise didn't correct his failure to call her Ms. Neville. Instead, she sighed, gently patting his head and letting him cry.

After a while, exhausted, Nathaniel sat up and wiped his face with his sleeve. Eloise frowned and handed him a face towel. “Clean yourself properly!”

“S-Sorry…”

Composing himself, he said, “I didn’t mean to lose control.”

Eloise frowned. “Now you’re sorry? Look at yourself!”

“It’s the end for me, Mother. My company will be destroyed. What can I do? I’ve failed you!” He tilted his head up, fighting back tears. He’d already been humiliated once.

“What nonsense are you spewing? How could your life be over because of this? I’ll only be disappointed if you give up!”

“B-But I…”

Eloise interrupted. “Remember what that scumbag father of yours wanted to do at the casino? He wanted to trade us like commodities to fuel his gambling. I overcame our early hardships alone. Do you think my remarriage to the Knight family was all rainbows and sunshine? Do you know how many challenges I faced? How many schemes I had to avoid? Now you’re crying over this?”

“I…” Shamed by her words, Nathaniel remained silent.
