Chapter 426

“Tell us! What did you buy?”

“That’s a big piece of furniture!”

Many colleagues gathered around curiously; some even leaned in to look inside. However, the box was so tightly sealed that all they saw were wooden boards.

“I didn’t buy it!” Lily shook her head, placing a hand on the wooden box. “Did security say anything about who sent it?”

Her colleagues all shook their heads, indicating they knew nothing.

Tapping her fingers on the wooden frame, Lily wondered who sent the box and how to open it. What was inside this enormous thing? Could her recent prominence have provoked a retaliatory act? This thought made her abruptly pull back her hand, as if fearing a bite.

Olivia rushed over, pancakes in hand. “Wow, this box is huge! What’s inside?”

Lily looked at her and casually said, “A bomb!”

Olivia jumped back, thankfully not dropping her pancakes. Wide-eyed, she asked, “Really?!”

“Of course not. It’s a joke. How could we stay here if it were real?”

A nearby colleague laughed. “We have no idea what’s inside. We’re all very curious! Lily, if you didn’t buy it, it must be from a guy! Could it be your boyfriend?”

Lily considered this, amused by their joking. Could Alexander have sent it?

She took out her phone and found a quiet corner to call. After a few rings, Alexander answered. His magnetic voice eased her worries. “You just left this morning, and you’ve missed me already?”

“Is that why you sent me a gift?” Lily asked.

Alexander was stunned. “Gift? What gift? Are you asking me to buy you something?”

“Didn’t you send one?” Lily’s surprise increased at his tone. It wasn’t him, then.

“Huh? Did someone give you something? What is it? Flowers? Or is it… balloons?” Alexander’s sensitivity to “balloons” was evident.

“No, no, it’s none of those. I was just asking around. Forget it!”

As she was about to hang up, his impatient voice cut through. “What do you mean forget it? You called me about this—it must be a big gift you like. What is it? Don’t you know who gave it to you?”

“I don’t know who gave it or what’s in it. How would I know if I like it?” She sighed. “It’s a big, sealed wooden box. I can’t see inside.”

Alexander was silent for a moment. “Then don’t open it yet. Get someone to move it to an open space before you try.”

Lily laughed. “You don’t think there’s a bomb in there, do you? Don’t worry. If it were a bomb, it would’ve exploded by now. I didn’t hear any sound.”

“Whatever it is, be careful.”
