Chapter 442

Wilfred's voice was grand, but his expression was peaceful. Alexander was stunned. He looked at Lily, had a sudden realization, and immediately said, "You're right." He retracted his hand, bowed respectfully, and said, "As your grandson-in-law, I wish you great fortune and a long life."

"Grandson-in-law?" The old man, the head of the Lodge family, was stunned, his eyes widening. Were young people so impetuous these days? One moment he was Mr. Lodge; the next, he was declaring himself grandson-in-law.

"The Lodge family doesn't recognize you yet," Justin, usually so steady, exclaimed.

Wilfred, a man who had seen much in his life, raised a hand to calm Justin. Then, he said dryly, "Alexander, you're from the older generation. It's reasonable for you to address me as Lily does, but calling yourself my grandson-in-law that's premature, isn't it? We haven't formally acknowledged your relationship with Lily yet."

Alexander glanced at Lily. She was blinking, speechless. He guessed she hadn't told her family about their relationship, so he didn't press the issue. "It's okay," he said. "I can wait. Sooner or later, I'm here to stay."

Mr. Lodge, Justin, and Lily were all speechless. Lily found his assertiveness impressive. Wilfred, finding the topic both embarrassing and sensitive, changed the subject. "I hear La Beaute Group has expanded to over ten countries recently?"

"We're just dabbling," Alexander replied humbly.

This was a vast understatement. La Beaute Group, specializing in cosmetics, had established a presence in each country, commanding a significant market share. Their involvement in film and advertising further solidified their dominance. Justin, despite being Alexander's contemporary, greatly respected his business acumen. The Russell family's efficient expansion and rise to prominence among the four leading families was remarkable.

However, business prowess didn't automatically translate to being a good son-in-law. Even the unimpressive Nathaniel hadn't been serious about his relationships. How serious Alexander was about Lily remained to be seen.

"I've known your father for a long time, though we haven't spoken in a while," Wilfred said. "How is he?"

Lily was surprised. She'd never known her grandfather knew Alexander's father. She realized she had never met his parents. "He's in good health," she replied. "He and my mother are traveling the world. I don't see him often."

This explained Lily's lack of acquaintance with Alexander's parents. "Traveling the world is wonderful," Wilfred mused, tapping his fingers on his wheelchair. "It's best done when one is young and strong. I couldn't travel now." He stroked his leg, a hint of sadness in his voice.

"If you wish to travel, we could accompany you," Alexander said with a smile, glancing at Lily.

His words were comforting, even encouraging. Lily found the courage to take Wilfred's hand. "Yes, Grandpa," she said. "If you wish to travel, we can go with you."

Wilfred was deeply touched. He looked down at her hand, his expression complex.
