Chapter 456
Elderly people are often stubborn, and their resistance to medical treatment tends to increase with age. Wilfred Lodge, a lifelong kickboxer and typically healthy man, particularly disliked doctors. However, his granddaughter’s essential oil might be an exception; he wouldn’t refuse a gift from her.
“That’s what I think,” she mused, “but I’m not sure Grandfather would use it. Still, I have to try.” She paused. “Actually, essential oils are like perfumes. Each perfumer has a unique style.”
“Take lavender and sandalwood, for example. Different ingredients and components yield different final products. This is something I want to make for him, different from anything he could buy.”
Having left the Lodge family for many years, she felt guilty about her grandfather’s insomnia and wanted to help.
Understanding her intentions, Alexander couldn’t stop her. He simply said, “No matter what, take care of yourself. Don’t overwork.”
He checked his watch. “10:30 p.m. That’s your limit. Bedtime is 10:30 p.m., every night. Promise me that, and you can continue. Otherwise, I’ll have someone clear out your little lab.”
Lily initially wanted to object—10:30 p.m. seemed early—but the threat spurred her into agreement. “Well then!”
“That’s my girl!” He pinched her nose, pleased.
“Tyrant!” Lily whispered.
“What?” Alexander feigned ignorance, leaning closer.
Lily laughed. “Nothing! I said okay. I’ll continue my work. You play by yourself, okay?” She patted his head playfully.
Before he could respond, Lily hurried away. Watching her go, Alexander smiled helplessly, shaking his head. He wondered what it would be like to have a child with her. He looked forward to it.
“What did you say? Repeat it!” Arianna’s charming voice turned sharp and piercing. Brittany nervously closed her eyes, covering her ears. “Oh dear, keep your voice down!”
“No, how can I? Where did you hear this? It’s ridiculous! Who are you talking about? Alexander… he’s engaged? To whom? To me? I don’t even know! How would you know? It’s ridiculous…” Brittany laughed, but her uncertainty was evident.
Arianna’s serious expression suggested she wasn’t joking.
Brittany, inexplicably nervous, clenched her sweaty palms. “Arianna, what did you say? Please tell me again.”
