Chapter 476

"If her family is staying there, they must not be doing well financially," Alexander said.

"No," Alexander shook his head. "It's her coworker."

"Coworker?" Brandon's eyes widened in disbelief. "She was soโ€ฆ" He recalled Lily's earlier anxiety, which had suggested a family emergency. "It was just her coworker? I didn't know coworkers had such close relationships these days."

"They're good friends," Alexander explained, understanding Brandon's skepticism. Brandon gave a thumbs-up. "She's an amazing friend!"

Alexander rolled his eyes before resuming a serious tone. "We can't keep you here any longer. Edward can't send you back, so you'll have to drive yourself home. Go to the porch and choose a car."

Of all their conversation that night, Alexander's words were the best news Brandon had received. "Sure! I got this!" He nodded and walked over. Pausing beside Alexander, he glanced back. "There's something I want to ask."

"What is it?" Alexander asked, raising an eyebrow.

Brandon checked to make sure Lily wasn't coming downstairs, then turned back to Alexander. "What's your wife's surname?"

Before Alexander could get angry, Brandon explained, "I don't want to keep calling her 'beautiful' or 'angel' every time I see her, do I? I wouldn't mind, but you wouldn't want me to tease her."

Alexander was exasperated. Lily's surname wasn't a secret anyway; news of their marriage would soon be all over social media.

"Her surname is Christian."

"Okay!" Brandon gave a thumbs-up and left happily. As instructed, he chose a car from the porch and drove away. Rubbing his stomach, he felt the visit had been worthwhile. He'd met Lily, learned her surname, and even had dinner prepared by Alexander. Life felt good again.

In retrospect, past incidents no longer mattered. However, Brandon couldn't think of anyone he knew with the surname Christian. Could she really come from an ordinary family?

Lily came downstairs, having changed into casual clothes. Brandon's departure didn't surprise her; it would have been stranger if he'd stayed. "How is it?" Her only concern was Olivia's situation.

"They're almost finished with the rescue, and all the injured have been sent to the hospital. It's complicated; they're still confirming identities. We can go to the hospital now, though."

That's exactly what Lily wanted. Without hesitation, she agreed, "Let's go."
