Alexander glanced at Lily as he set down his coffee. "You're unusually diligent today. Is there something you want to ask me?"

Lily rolled her eyes. "Of course not! I've been moody lately, and it's been hard on you. You've even brought a lot of work home because of me. So, I should treat you to something nice," she said sincerely.

Alexander beamed. "Is that so?"

His gaze drifted from her face to her slender neck, then to her long arms, and finally to her wrist, which rested naturally at her side. He extended a finger, gently touching her palm and tickling it.

Lily immediately withdrew her hand, glaring at him. "What are you doing?!"

"To be honest," Alexander said smoothly, "there are many ways to treat me that don't require you to buy me anything."

Lily was silent, swallowing hard as she stared at him. Although Alexander was quick, she could easily have avoided his touch. However, the suddenness of his action, coupled with her reluctance to resist, allowed him to pull her closer.

She remained calm as he leaned over her. With widened eyes, she looked at him and said, "I'll do anything you want." In a flash, Alexander leaned down and kissed her passionately, his hand clasped in hers.

My beloved wife! Alexander thought.

They hadn't been intimate in a long time, preoccupied with work and lacking the energy for anything else.

"Alex"

"Yeah?"

"Let's get married," Lily said.

Alexander paused, raising his head to look at her.

Lily licked her lips and quickly added, "I mean, let's just have a wedding." She wanted to skip any engagement parties and go straight to the wedding. She wanted to tell the world they were together. Seeing his lack of immediate response, she hesitated. "Do you not want to?"

Alexander lowered his head, nibbling her earlobe before whispering, "You fool, why would you even ask?"
