Chapter 532
Benedict was quiet, reluctant to relinquish the gift and almost hoping to retract it. However, he was adamant about giving it to Lily.
"It's from me personally, not from the Tanner family," Benedict explained suddenly.
Lily sensed he wasn't quite himself, but found it difficult to ask. She simply said, "Thank you, I like it very much." Benedict smiled and started to leave, but turned after two steps. "Are you really going to marry someone from the Russell family?"
Confused, Lily looked at him silently.
"I—it's nothing," he said, shaking his head hesitantly. "See you around."
Watching his departing figure, Lily felt his visit was strange, but couldn't pinpoint what was wrong. In any case, she loved the gift; it completely captivated her.
Alexander was surprised to see Lily arrive home with a large bag. "What's that?"
"Good stuff!" Lily laughed, entering the house with it. Alexander quickly stepped forward to help, feeling the weight. "It's quite heavy." "Of course, it's heavy. It's wood!" She set the backpack down and opened it to reveal the wood inside.
"Wood?!" Ever since Lily had set up a workspace at home, she'd brought back increasingly unusual items. This piece of wood was relatively ordinary compared to some of her previous acquisitions, though it was very large.
"Someone gave it to me," Lily explained, anticipating Alexander's thoughts. "Benedict Tanner, the eldest of the Tanner family. You met him last time at my family's house."
"I see," he replied, remembering the young man in the snow.
"He promised it to me earlier, but then I didn't hear from him. I thought I'd never see it. I never expected to run into him in my own backyard! Maybe he remembered he still owed me something."
Lily was overjoyed. She'd wanted this for a long time, and fresh materials always sparked her inspiration. She felt a surge of creative energy. "What time are you going to bed tonight?" Seeing her excitement, Alexander knew what was coming.
Having lived with her for a while, Alexander knew she was far more interested in materials than people.
"I won't be too late. It depends on the experiment. You go to bed first, don't worry about me!"
Alexander rolled his eyes silently, clearly disbelieving her. Whenever she said she wouldn't be late, she stayed up all night. He'd have to get up and force her to bed; otherwise, she wouldn't sleep. People considered him a workaholic, but he wasn't as extreme as she was; he still ate and slept.
"I don't care what time it is. You have to go to bed. I'm going to bed, too." Alexander set a limit to ensure she took care of herself.
Lily conceded. "Well, I'll start working now, so I don't waste any time!"
Watching her joyfully rush to her workspace, Alexander shook his head helplessly. If she kept working like this, their wedding date would be delayed.
