Chapter 554
"What's wrong?" Alexander asked.
Lily looked down and pointed at the lights. "Who was responsible for the lighting design?"
"Is something wrong with the arrangements?" Alexander asked, sensing her dissatisfaction.
"It's nothing. I'm just curious who could have come up with such a design," Lily explained. Alexander replied, "It was Edward."
"Oh" That explained the strange decorations. Before Lily could speak, Alexander continued, "I also helped with it." He wasn't letting an opportunity to claim credit slip by. He had participated in the planning, as this was his marriage proposal. It would have been meaningless to delegate everything. This proposal was special because it included his suggestions and ideas. Lily was speechless. She didn't know whether to praise or critique his peculiar taste.
"Can you see the two sides? The letter A stands for Alexander, L stands for Lily, and the pattern in the middle is" Alexander paused, squinting. From the helicopter, the pattern looked strange. "Itkinda looks like an 'o'?"
"You finally noticed, too, huh?" Lily replied, relieved he'd said it, not her. It meant she wasn't the only one who thought the pattern was weird.
"That's a heart shape," Alexander insisted. Though he was starting to doubt himself, he blamed the angle. Still, that wasn't the main issue. AOL looked like an online abbreviation. It was unusual. "Hey, what if people thought it was some message from aliens? Wouldn't that be funny?" Lily joked.
Immediately, Alexander called Edward. "Edward."
"Hello, Mr. Russell?" Edward had finished his work; why the call?
"Turn off all the lights immediately," Alexander ordered.
"Huh?" Edward looked up. "Okay." He remembered Alexander's instruction to leave the lights on for an hour. Why the change? But Edward, the loyal employee he was, instructed the workers to turn off the lights.
Alexander sighed in relief when the ground returned to darkness. He no longer had to look at those strange initials. He felt a little gloomy, too. He was usually confident, but this marriage proposal was disappointing, plagued by numerous hiccups. "You're probably disappointed about this marriage proposal, huh?" he sighed.
Lily shook her head. "Not at all! I thought it was wonderful!"
"There were too many setbacks." Alexander considered this unacceptable.
"It's because of those setbacks that your plan was special!" Lily smiled, genuinely happy. She cupped his face. "I meant every word. I genuinely loved it!"
