Chapter 560
"What did I agree to?"
"Y-You just said"
"First, a man's most valuable trait isn't his willingness to admit mistakes and change, but his humility and modesty. When we were together, he only took advantage of me. Where's the love in that? As for" Lily paused. "As for why he regretted it afterward, it's because he realized I could benefit him more. It's because Melanie dumped him. Am I right?"
"It's not" Eloise began, but Lily cut her off, preventing any defense of her son. "Next, it's uncertain that associating with the Russells is a bad idea, but you did agree Alex is a great man. Let me correct you: he's not just great; he's far superior to Nathaniel. So why would I choose Nathaniel over Alex? Give me one reason."
Eloise's face fell. Lily continued relentlessly, "Lastly, you've forgotten the most important point. Didn't you say Nathaniel is missing? You wanted me to be with him, but how can I when I don't even know where he is? And are you sure you can find him?"
"What are you trying to say?" Eloise maintained her composure until Lily's last sentence. Her expression soured; her grip on her sparkling water tightened until the can crushed.
"Nothing," Lily said coldly, glancing at the crushed can, unaffected. "Just that, knowing him, he might not be able to handle this setback because he's so self-centered and prideful. If he could accept it, he might have a chance to start over, but he might give up on life."
"Are you cursing him?" Eloise's eyes blazed. How dare this woman curse my son?!
"I'm analyzing the situation objectively, but I could be wrong. After all, I didn't know what Nathaniel was truly like during our years together. If I had, he wouldn't have tricked me for so long, would he?"
Lily looked out the window. "Well, that's it. I've made myself clear. Stop the car; you can say goodbye."
"Are you honestly not going to help with my perfume?" Eloise asked, her gaze dark.
Lily remained silent, a silent rejection.
"Do you think you have nothing to fear because Alexander is protecting you?" Eloise scoffed, her friendly demeanor vanishing. She's a great actress; her expression changes so quickly.
"You're right," Lily admitted honestly. "I'm not afraid because I have his support."
Initially, Lily feared others' opinions—that Alexander was too good for her, and the ensuing rumors. But after enduring so much, she realized other people's opinions didn't matter. What mattered was Alexander's support and understanding. His presence made her fearless. With a grim face, Eloise commanded, "Stop the car!"
