Chapter 567
The annual Sapphine Chamber of Commerce dinner was lively, a respected event for industry leaders to network with established business partners and explore potential clients and investments.
Alexander was naturally the center of attention. Many small and medium-sized companies, eager to collaborate with La Beautรฉ Group or secure his investment, vied for his attention.
Brittany, clutching her wine glass, felt nervous. She watched it for a long time, unable to find an opening to approach Alexander.
Arianna swayed, smiled, and murmured, "It's getting late," her soft voice audible only to Brittany. "I know," Brittany replied, pursing her lips. "There are too many people. I'm waiting for an opportunity."
"Waiting isn't an option," Arianna said with a faint smile, taking a sip of her wine. "Alex will likely leave any minute." Brittany's heart conflicted; she wanted to resolve things quickly but felt anxious about her approach. Her feelings for Alexander were a mixture of love and fearโa long-held affection tempered by apprehension.
Raising her head, she drained her wine for courage. "Remember what we agreed on!" she declared, then strode towards Alexander.
Approaching him, she accepted two glasses of wine from a waiter, her pinky nervously tapping one as she pushed through the crowd. "Alexโฆ"
Alexander turned to see her.
"Alex, I was ignorant before," Brittany began, handing him a glass. "I did things that angered you, and I was impulsive. I hope you can forgive me." Alexander politely accepted the wine but didn't drink. "You're a grown-up now," he said, "and should consider the consequences of your actions. I can forgive you this time, as I still consider you my sister."
Brittany's eyes glinted at the word "sister." "I see. If you forgive me, then let's toast to that!" She raised her glass.
"Brittany, we're friends; we don't need to drink to make amends," Alexander replied, seeming reluctant.
"No, I insist!" Brittany pleaded, fearing his refusal. She drank from her glass. "I'm being sincere, so I hope you can give me another chance." Her gaze fixed on his untouched wine.
"Really?" Alexander asked, raising an eyebrow. Brittany's eyes flickered as she bit her lip. "Just this once?"
After a moment's hesitation, Alexander said slowly, "Okay."
