After adjusting her clothes, she glanced at Brandon. He still seemed unhappy with the situation. She pouted, walked over, and opened the door. A blinding flash of camera lights erupted, accompanied by excited shouts of "Brittany! It's Brittany!" Whoa! What a scene! Tomorrow's headlines screamed "Leading Actress with Mysterious Man in Hotel Room! One-Night Stand?" Breaking news, indeed! The paparazzi surged forward, frantically jostling for position, desperate to capture a good shot. Brittany walked out; Brandon remained inside, hidden from view.
Raising an arm to shield her eyes, Brittany was surprised by their speed. The news couldn't have spread this quickly, surely? Yet, years of media experience kept her calm. With a slight smile, she said, "What's everyone doing here? For interviews, please contact my assistant."
"Brittany, are you alone?" someone called. "There seems to be someone else inside. It's late. Are you discussing the script?" "Are you seeing someone?" Some of the questions—awkwardly self-prepared—now felt incredibly embarrassing.
"Why all the noise?" Brandon emerged, impatient and frowning.
The paparazzi froze. "Brandon?" Those familiar with the gossip circuit instantly recognized him—a notorious playboy, constantly embroiled in scandals. Siblings? What kind of breaking news was this?
He raised a hand, offering his signature smile. "It must be tiring for everyone to photograph my sister at this hour! I hope you'll give her some privacy."
"Why's Brandon here?" Some remained skeptical, peering suspiciously into the room. Brittany felt deflated. She’d hoped someone else was inside. Everything had gone wrong. There was nothing to do but play along.
"Am I not supposed to be here? My sister had a few drinks at the Chamber of Commerce and rested in the room. I'm taking her home. Anything else?" Brandon shrugged, answering smoothly.
"Uh..."
They exchanged uneasy glances. There was no scandal, but what about tomorrow's headlines? "Oakley siblings secretly in love—go home together!"—nonsense!
