Chapter 644
Henry snorted, turning to leave. This was a waste of time.
Nathaniel called out, "Mr. Lodge, do you believe this is a mere imitation? I assure you, even Lily couldn't distinguish it from her own candle."
Henry stopped, suspicion etched on his face. Nathaniel knew mere words wouldn't suffice. Stepping closer, he offered Henry the box. "Lily and I dated for over five years. I'm intimately familiar with her methods."
"This was crafted meticulously, following Lily's techniques and recipe. It will withstand even the most advanced forensic analysis."
Doubt lingered, but Henry saw Nathaniel's confidence. "Are you telling the truth?"
"You have two days. Find someone to test it. Be cautious, thoughโI've added 'extra ingredients'," Nathaniel smirked, radiating control.
Henry finally took the box, sniffing it before pulling away.
"No need to worry. A small amount is insufficient to poison anyone. After all, old Mr. Lodge died from slow-acting poison, didn't he?" Nathaniel remarked.
Henry had deliberately smelled Lily's candles; they smelled identical. Though he detected no difference, he'd still send it for testing. This was crucial evidence to convict Lily and Justin.
"Mr. Lodge, please replace every candle Lily ever made. I've provided enough replacements. And this," Nathaniel produced a small object, handing it to Henry.
Henry examined it. "A flash drive?"
"The candle proves Lily's guilt through revenge. But it's useless against Justin. This will help with that," Nathaniel grinned, extending his hand. "You'll understand once you're home. I look forward to our collaboration."
Henry, eyebrows raised, shook Nathaniel's hand. "I hope these don't disappoint!" His impatience to examine the flash drive was evident.
Nathaniel smiled, but didn't reply. They parted, heading to their respective cars. Their engines started almost simultaneously; then, they sped away in opposite directions. Silence returned, as if they'd never been there.
Lily stood, gazing into the distance. A car approached the park, stopping some distance away in an open area. No one exited. Lily had a clear, unobstructed view, as did the occupant of the car.
"Is this the play you mentioned?" she asked Alexander.
Alexander shook his head, smiling. "Patience."
Lily waited. The car remained stationary. It seemed the occupant was waiting for something. Half an hour later, another car arrived.
It stopped near the first. Someone emerged, but the distance made identification impossible. Lily couldn't even determine the person's gender.
