Chapter 692

Damian considered Nathaniel his enemy due to Nathaniel's close relationship with Arianna. Damian planned to seize control of Tanner Corporation, then bring his mother back to the family residence and formally include her in the family register. He envisioned them leading the Tanner family in the future. He intended to provide financially for Arianna and Eloise if he was in a good mood; otherwise, he would evict them. Resentful of years of suffering and his parents' perceived shame in him, he felt entitled to leadership, believing his status as his father's firstborn son granted him that right.

Nathaniel smiled faintly, rose, and said, "You're mistaken." Approaching Damian, he lit a cigarette and offered one. Closing the door slowly, he continued, "Everyone knows you're leading this project, and we all see your hard work. You recruited the perfumers, planned the project, detailed the manufacturing process, and even determined the target sales volume. That's all your accomplishment, and no one can dispute it."

Damian felt comfortable and valued by Nathaniel's polite words. His demeanor softened, losing its previous bossiness. He accepted the cigarette, took a puff, and squinted at Nathaniel.

"You're smart! I hope that's how you truly feel!"

Nathaniel sat beside him, seemingly ingratiating himself. "I assure you, it's genuine. Everyone in the company sees you as the future owner of Tanner Corporation. Mr. Derrick's son is incompetent and currently missing; Mr. Derrick himself hasn't been to the office in a while. Once you complete this project, you'll be promoted to at least vice president. Why would I oppose you?"

Damian grinned, trying to suppress his joy.

"Hey, let's keep this quiet. It's not official yet, so don't be so open about it! Be discreet."

"Of course! You're the most thoughtful person I know!" Nathaniel nodded eagerly, appearing subservient.

Damian's guard completely dropped; his annoyance with Nathaniel vanished.

"By the way, is what you said earlier true? Is Mr. Derrick's son really missing?"

Joseph, while fond of Damian, hadn't shared much family information. Damian knew the family structure and relationships superficially, having visited Derrick's house only a few times. He remembered Derrick as stern and unfriendly, showing neither favoritism nor animosity. Derrick had briefly questioned him during one visit, but they hadn't communicated since. Damian subconsciously avoided Derrick and his home. He'd never met Benedict.

"I'm not sure; it's just rumor. But consider this: Mr. Derrick's son rarely came to the company in the past few years. Even if he returns, you've already completed this project and made significant contributions. How could he compare? The employees will be on your side!"

Damian found Nathaniel's words reasonable. In just a few exchanges, he considered Nathaniel an ally.
