Chapter 705
Rose noticed Alexander staring at the speaker. Anxiously, she stood and began, "Ms. Christian…"
A crisp voice interrupted, "Sorry I'm late, everyone!"
Lily, panting heavily and looking disheveled, entered. Her hair was wet with sweat, clinging to her face, and she wore casual clothes. The media, expecting a more formal appearance, were startled.
Several reporters raised their cameras, capturing the scene as the main event finally arrived. They wasted no time. Lily's disheveled state fueled speculation that she'd been forced to attend. Reporters already envisioned the ensuing drama.
Alexander turned to his wife, who clutched a box while catching her breath.
"Don't worry," he said warmly, producing a handkerchief to gently wipe the sweat from her forehead and cheeks.
Rose and the La Beauté Group staff watched, jaws agape, as the media below the stage widened their eyes and frantically photographed the tender moment. Alexander's display of affection was unusual; rumors had circulated about his relationship status—or lack thereof—but this public show of care was unprecedented. His actions clearly favored Lily, a stark contrast to assumptions and rumors.
"I'm fine," Lily said, shaking her head. "I can continue."
"I know," Alexander replied calmly, his focus solely on Lily. Ignoring the media, he retrieved a bottle of water, opened it, and offered it to her. "Drink some water first, then sit down and speak slowly. I'll accompany you."
"Yeah!" Lily nodded, thirsty and obedient.
After a few sips, she sat, calming slightly. The run, though not far, had exhausted her, but at least she wasn't late.
Many eyes watched her. She knew some were waiting for her to falter.
"First, I want to apologize for my lateness," she said sincerely. "I'm sorry." Her charming demeanor softened some of the initial criticism.
"Second, regarding the audio circulating online," she continued, clearing her throat and meeting their gazes. "I admit the recording is my voice, and I said those words. Although edited, the content is accurate. I admit it."
An uproar erupted. Rose, watching from the sidelines, nearly had a heart attack. She glared at Lily, thinking, Is this woman insane? They'd worked tirelessly to repair Lily's image, minimizing company losses and negative impact, only for Lily to undo it all with a few words.
