Chapter 728

Elizabeth pouted, shook Joseph’s arm, and said softly, “Joseph, I know I’m at fault. It was my first time at an auction, and I got too excited. Besides, you’ve never taken me to such places before. Forgive my ignorance, please.”

Joseph, still angry, turned to look at her. Elizabeth, though over forty, remained beautiful. Her pitiful eyes softened his heart. He pinched her cheek, saying, “I’m helpless against you.”

Hearing his weakened voice, Elizabeth knew she’d won. She smiled sweetly, hugged his arm, nuzzled her face against him, and said, “I know you’re the best! Let’s forget about it. You can’t blame me anymore!”

“What should I do with you? Don’t be so unruly next time. Be obedient and think before you speak!”

Elizabeth nodded vigorously. “I’ll be obedient. Joseph, that sapphire necklace…”

“What about it?”

“You said that casually, right? When will you get it for me?” She eagerly awaited it.

Joseph’s smile faded. He forcefully pushed her hands away and removed his arm. “Why are you still hung up on that necklace?”

“Because I’ve wanted it for a long time! You promised!”

Joseph shook his head. “I publicly stated that the necklace is for Eloise. You shouldn’t think about it. I’ll get you a better one later.”

“I don’t want a different one! I want that one!” Elizabeth stamped her foot, throwing a tantrum. She wanted it not just because she desired it, but for her reputation; it was a battle between her and Eloise. Joseph’s public declaration meant Eloise likely knew. Giving it to Elizabeth instead would be a powerful statement.

“You said you’d be obedient!”

Joseph frowned, refusing to yield. “I said I’d give it to her. Do you think the media are blind? I need to give it to her, and she needs to wear it for the reporters. Otherwise, it’ll affect Tanner Corporation’s stock price and Damian’s future. Do you understand?”

Hearing about her son’s future stunned Elizabeth, but she refused to believe it. “You’re exaggerating.”

“Honestly, you don’t understand anything!” Joseph shook his head. He sat on the sofa, saying firmly, “That’s enough, Elizabeth. I can’t give you the necklace, but I’ll give you something else.”

Seeing his firm resolve, Elizabeth knew he wouldn’t change his mind. Rage consumed her; she grabbed something and smashed it to the ground. “Damn it! All that trouble, and that b*tch gets the necklace?!”
