Chapter 744
"That's horsesh*t!" Lily exclaimed, glaring at Jenny and slapping her stomach. "Do I look pregnant to you?"
"Hey, not your tummy!" Jenny protested, hurrying to Lily's side and touching her belly. "Still rather flat. If you were pregnant, I'd say it's not past three months."
Finding it both hilarious and frustrating, Lily pulled Jenny's hands away. "Well, I'm not! I had my period last month. How can I be pregnant for three months?"
"What about this month, then?" Jenny asked, half-jokingly.
"The month's not even over" Lily trailed off, then thought back to her last period. She usually ignored them, and being preoccupied, she'd simply forgotten. Now, realizing she'd missed this month's period, she felt a sudden pang of anxiety.
Jenny, noticing the change in Lily's expression, crouched down, concern etched on her face. "Why? You're not really pregnant, are you?"
"How can it be possible?" Lily laughed, the sound a little strained. "I must have been under too much pressure; my period is just late. I'm not pregnant."
"It's hard to say," Jenny replied. "If your periods have always been punctual, but not this time, you better take note. There's no certainty about when we'll get pregnant."
"No!" Lily shook her head vehemently. "No f*cking way!"
"Why not? Unless you've never had sex!"
Lily blushed. "Let's not talk about it, okay?"
"Hey, I'm not trying to pry," Jenny said gently, "but if there's a possibility, you should have a checkup. You deal with scents and essential oils, which contain chemicals besides natural ingredients. Even if they're raw materials, some might not be suitable for a pregnant woman to handle over a long period, right?"
Jenny's expression turned serious. "Although I've never given birth, my sister has. She also reminded me to be extra careful with the stuff we often encounter."
Speechless, Lily grew increasingly nervous. She knew Jenny was right; some of the materials they handled were unsuitable for pregnant women. But was she really pregnant? Panic began to set in.
"Still, it's a good thing if you are pregnant, so you can get some rest for yourself and your baby," Jenny said, softening her tone. "There's no hurry concerning your studio. Just take your time."
Her suggestion, though well-intentioned, felt impossible to Lily. She couldn't abandon her studio just as it was taking off. She'd promised Lisa a themed series. Pregnancy would mean breaking that promise.
"Now that my resignation's been approved, I'll head back then," Lily said, rising abruptly. She had no desire to linger. "Jen, I should get going. Come over to the studio whenever you're free. I'll send you the address later."
"Please, spare me the courtesy," Jenny said, shaking her head. "If you're worried, have a checkup at the hospital. At least you can prepare yourself once you know for sure."
