Chapter 748
Damian smirked smugly as the production line churned out finely packaged perfumes. They would soon enter the market, generating substantial profits, but his reward would be far greater. Making money, after all, was relatively easy.
His father had warned him that running a business was difficult, demanding caution and continuous learning. However, Damian considered his father too conservative, unable to keep pace with the times. In his view, success wasn't that hard to achieve.
The factory foreman reported, "Mr. Damian, this batch of perfumes will be ready in a week and can be launched then." Damian nodded. "Good job! You'll all share the credit at the launch."
"Thank you, Mr. Damian."
"Has Mr. Hall been around lately?" Damian asked, a sudden thought occurring to him.
"No, sir, he hasn't."
The foreman sighed. "Since production began, Mr. Hall hasn't been here once. He called twice for instructions and progress updates, but that's all."
"He hasn't shown up once?" Damian's voice rose, his displeasure evident in a cold snort. "He sure knows how to relax, doesn't he?"
Damian mused, Oh, Nathaniel Hall, all talk and no action. Does he have the experience of an industry leader? More like a slacker. He then thought, Still, this is better. When the time comes to take credit, he'll be irrelevant, and I can easily dismiss him. What if he's a spy sent by Arianna, feigning loyalty? I don't trust her. When I control the company, I'll replace the staff with my own people.
"Perhaps he's busy," the foreman offered diplomatically, smiling to avoid offense. "As for you, Mr. Damian, you've always worked hard and frequently monitored progress."
"This is a crucial project; we can't afford mistakes. Naturally, I'll keep a close eye on it."
Pausing, he walked to the door, then turned back. "Oh, yes, get me a bottle."
"Yes, sir!" The foreman quickly instructed someone to prepare a bottle.
Damian examined the perfume. "All right. I'll be going."
He left with the perfume, heading to his mother's residenceโa house he'd lived in for nearly twenty years before recently moving in with the Tanner family. He had always lived with his mother until then. The house, nestled in a pleasant villa community, paled in comparison to the Tanner family's lavish mansion. He felt ashamed living outside the mansion, where all the important people resided.
The atmosphere at home was tense. Damian sensed it before entering, but he forced a smile. "Mom?"
The living area was empty. He found Elizabeth in her bedroom, lounging lazily in bed. Instead of enthusiastic greeting, she merely said, "You're back."
"Mom, are you feeling well?" He sat beside her, touching her forehead. Her temperature was normal.
His touch brought tears to Elizabeth's eyes, and a miserable expression to her face. "Oh, Damian, you're the only one who still cares. I thought even you didn't want me anymore." Damian was speechless.
