Chapter 88
The booking app remained unresponsive; no taxis were available, likely due to rush hour traffic. Lacking a car proved inconvenient.
Nathaniel had previously owned a car, which was still registered in his name. Initially, Lily hadn't worried about such details, but on reflection, she realized her foolishness. Still, it wasn't a shame; she no longer wished to be entangled with his possessions. The car wasn't worth the trouble.
Lily checked the time, debating whether to take the bus, when she felt a hand on her shoulder.
The pat was forceful, causing Lily to frown and turn. She tried to break free but underestimated the grip's strength. The hand remained firmly on her shoulder, but now they faced each other.
"Lily, do you still want to fight me?"
The man was thin, wearing a crisp white shirt with tightly buttoned cuffs. The dazzling light reflecting off his sapphire blue cufflinks was blinding. "Justin?" The name felt unfamiliar when spoken aloud. "Let's go somewhere for a chat?" Justin raised his eyebrows. Though he released his grip, his request was undeniable.
Lily didn't object. She followed him across two streets to a secluded alley. It was a dead end, walled at one end, ensuring privacy. It was extremely quiet. Justin walked to the far end, one hand behind his back, the other hanging loosely at his side. He slowly turned.
"Long time no see, Lily." He examined her from head to toe.
"Did you come looking for me?" Lily could hardly believe the coincidence.
Over the past few years, Justin could easily have found her, but they hadn't been in contact. It wasn't inability, but unwillingness. She had been determined then, leaving everything behind.
Seeing Justin now, she felt conflicted, but maintained her composure. "Why else?" Taking two steps forward, Justin continued, "Just look at yourself. What have you done to yourself?" Lily looked down, silent.
"Come back with me," Justin stated plainly.
"No!" Lily refused decisively.
"You still haven't given up? How does he treat you in return for your treatment of him? Don't tell me you're stillโฆ"
Before Justin finished, Lily raised her head. "No! Nate and I have separated. I have nothing to do with him!" "If so, why?" Justin stared, his eyes unwavering. "Could it be that after all this time, you're still angry?"
โฆ Biting her lip, Lily pondered. "I'll go back."
After a pause, she added slowly, "However, not now."
