Chapter 899

After listening to Lily for a while, Benedict shook his head and sighed. "I thought many would be saddened by news of my death. I guess I don't have that much influence, do I?" Lily knew he was teasing, but she didn't laugh. Instead, she asked seriously, "Is this part of your plan?"

Benedict's gaze wavered. "What?"

"If you don't want to talk about it, that's okay. Everyone has secrets." Lily didn't pry. "Do what you need to do."

Benedict smiled. "It's not that I don't want to talk about it, but it's not the time yet. Anyway, I never expected to see you here. Vacation?"

"No, I'm here for a collaboration deal," Lily replied frankly.

Benedict raised his eyebrows, surprised. "You used to be in the lab, creating perfumes, and now you're discussing deals? Wow, is that really you?"

Lily smiled at his praise. She had changed so much in the past two years, thanks in part to Nathaniel. However, she was most grateful to Alexander for his timely help and support without interference. From him, she learned the true meaning of giving.

"Hello? Yoo-hoo?" Benedict waved, a knowing look on his face. "That sweet smile… thinking of your boyfriend?"

"It's none of your business," Lily said, catching herself. Benedict wasn't the unruly boy carving wood anymore. He was a man in business attire, pen instead of chisel. Much had changed, yet much remained the same. "So, you don't make wooden figures anymore?" she asked, feeling a pang of sympathy.

He would surely inherit Tanner Corporation one day. However…

"Yes, why not?" Benedict replied firmly. "I only do it in my spare time, but I'm grateful I still can." He reflected on life's losses and wins, the responsibilities one bears. He felt grateful for everything.

"You know about the Tanner family's situation, right?" Lily asked cautiously.

Benedict's gaze lowered, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "We must have looked like fools."

Lily offered, "This is your family's business, not mine to judge. But seeing you so calm, I'm sure you have a solution."

"Thank you for your concern," Benedict said seriously.

"Why so serious? Oh, do you remember the wood carvings you gave me?" Lily remembered some good news she wanted to share. Benedict nodded. "Yes, I do."
