Chapter 931
What a liar! How could she have slept so soundly that she didn't even realize he'd carried her to the hospital? "I didn't expect to get sick so easily. I rarely get sick, and I never anticipated feeling this bad!"
Moving slightly, she felt her body's weakness. The IV drip was still in place, hindering movement. "Is this for a fever?" she asked, looking up at the multiple small bottles hanging above.
"No, it's a nutrient solution. You're not allowed any medication right now," Alexander replied, pouring her a glass of water with a thoughtfully added straw.
Lily frowned, confused. "What do you mean I can't take medicine? Am I allergic to something?" she asked. She'd been ill only a few times in her life, rarely hospitalized, and had never known any allergies.
Alexander shook his head. "No, it's your current situation. The doctor also said you're malnourished, so you need to focus on nutrition first. You must wait until you're better and healthier."
"What do you mean? You're saying I'm too weak to take medication?"
Seeing her bewildered expression, Alexander smiled gently. After she finished her water, he took the cup away, wiped her mouth with a tissue, and simply looked at her, smiling. His happiness was evident; his grin was wide, his teeth showing.
Lily remained confused. "What are you smiling at? It's giving me goosebumps!"
"Have you been feeling weak and sleepy? Moody and irritable lately?"
Lily, still unsure of the meaning behind his seemingly random questions, nodded. "It seems so. How did you know? Have you been watching me?"
"No, the doctor mentioned it. He said these are common early pregnancy symptoms, and they'll gradually improve."
Lily nodded, a simple "Oh." Then, realization dawned. "Wait a minute. What are you talking about? I'm pregnant?"
Was that what she heard? Was that what he said? Lily, pregnant? Guessing her thoughts, Alexander nodded. "Yes! You're pregnant, Lily! We're having a baby! You're going to be a mother!"
Alexander's excitement was uncontainable, his expression unrestrained; a wide grin and bright eyes spoke volumes.
Lily's reaction was more complex. She wasn't sure if she was happy. She looked down at her abdomen and touched it. The feeling was indescribable. Her previous pregnancy scare had proved false. Was this another mistake? "How do you know? Did the doctor say so? Is it confirmed? Will it be like last time? Are you sure? The greater the hopeโฆ" she trailed off, "โฆthe greater the disappointment. I don't want to go through that again. I need to be sure."
