Chapter 972

"Got it!" she said, pushing his head away and smiling. "You're so long-winded! Why didn't I notice before? Are you concerned about me or the baby? Alex, I'm getting jealous!"

"Of course, I'm concerned about both of you. You're both my precious ones!" He smiled, pulled her into his arms, kissed her cheek, then kissed her again. She was his sweetheart, and he would protect her. Alexander silently resolved to do just that.

Thieves broke into the mansion before dawn, creating a mess. The intrusion was obvious, but the thieves were at large. Strangely, no valuables seemed to be missing. Everyone checked their belongings, while another group reviewed the security footage. It was baffling. How could they sneak in undetected, tamper with almost every bedroom, and remain unnoticed? The thought sent a chill down everyone's spine. It would have been easy for them to kill anyone.

Margaret insisted on calling the police to thoroughly investigate and bolster security.

Alexander entered a room filled with chattering family membersโ€”a rare sight. It had been a long time since the Russells had been so gathered, ironically united by this incident.

"Alex, you must investigate this. It will affect your reputation!" Celine said upon seeing him. Her room, at the far end of the corridor, had been ransacked. She'd discovered her closet open that morning, initially assuming she'd forgotten to close it. Only after learning of the break-in did she realize the truth and scream in fright.

As more family members discovered their rooms had been violated, the situation grew serious. Ralph was the most panicked. He'd arranged for Heather to visit that day to discuss their marriage, and this unwelcome event threatened to derail everything. How would the discerning Ms. Riggs react?

"Someone broke into the house?" Alexander said quietly.

He'd already received a call from Edward last night.

"I don't know what kind of thief dares to do this," he said. "Ralph, did you call the police?"

Ralph frowned, irritated. "It's useless! They avoided all the surveillance cameras. It's unbelievable! If they were that skilled, they're not ordinary thieves!"

"Ralph, what do you mean?" Margaret, frightened, sat on the sofa to compose herself.

"Mom, don't you understand? They carefully avoided all cameras without being noticed. I'm afraid they're not ordinary thievesโ€”they're insiders!" He looked meaningfully at Alexander.

"They broke into our rooms but didn't take money or try to kill us. So what did they want?"
