Chapter 974

"Okay, slow down and drive safely," Margaret said with concern. She had always been extremely fond of her youngest son. Seeing this impending marriage, she wanted everything to be perfect. After a moment's thought, she looked at Alexander, who had just hung up the phone, and cleared her throat. "There's nothing you can do here. You've seen it all, so head back to the company." After all, it was the eldest daughter of the Riggs family, and the marriage wasn't even official yet. Margaret didn't want anything to go wrong, especially with her grandson, who she considered an unstable time bomb.

Unexpectedly, Alexander curled his lips. "I've already made arrangements for the company. I'll stay here today to accompany you."

"I don't want your companionship!" Margaret blurted out. She immediately regretted her outburst and softened her tone. "I mean, there are still many things for you to do at the company. The family business is large, and since your grandfather handed it over to you, you should focus on it. As for that thief, we can't rest easy while he's still free."

"I'll take care of the thief," Alexander replied. "I've managed the business for a long time, so don't worry. It's rare for me to have free time, and I heard Ralph's getting engaged today. I can meet my future aunt." He offered a faint, cold smileโ€”insincere, if one looked closely.

Margaret started to speak again, but Alexander had already risen. "I'll go check upstairs."

Seeing him leave, Celine gently tugged Margaret's arm. "Mom, let him go."

Alexander hadn't been back to the mansion in a long time. He knew last night's visit wasn't solely due to the Light-Shadow killers or the Riggs family, but he didn't know their purpose. Before his grandfather's death, he'd discussed the company and the Russell family, but hadn't finished explaining the family's generational secret before he passed away. Of course, Margaret wouldn't tell him. The rest of the Russell family remained unaware, and even if they were, they wouldn't reveal it. He could only investigate discreetly. Since it was a family secret, the investigation needed to be subtle. After a thorough, quiet search, he'd found nothing. Had the Light-Shadow Killers sought this secret as well? He stood in the corridor, surveying his surroundings. He'd checked everywhere except Margaret's room. As an elder, it was inappropriate to ask to search her room.

He paused at her door. Just as he was about to reach for the handle, he heard a car arrive downstairs, followed by voices. Was Heather here already? His finger brushed the door panel before he hesitated and withdrew his hand. The doorknob was locked, as expected.

Downstairs, Ralph announced loudly, "Heather, this is my mother."

"Hello, Mrs. Russell," Heather replied, her nod polite but unenthusiastic.

Margaret, knowing Heather's strong temperament, was prepared. She smiled warmly. "Ms. Riggs is remarkably poised. You're unlike the spoiled girls I usually meet! You have a very pleasant demeanor!" Margaret turned to Celine, seeking agreement.
