Chapter 988

He felt Heather possessed a bizarre temperament after spending the past few days with her. One minute she was cold, the next gentle, then furious, and finally, timidly adorable. Ralph feared he might develop schizophrenia if this continued.

Margaret, knowing who he meant, chuckled. "Aren't all women like that? Is this news to you?"

"Still, she's too emotional! It's like I'm seeing two different people!"

"That's because she's not ordinary. Heather's moodiness is well-known, and I've witnessed it firsthand. If it weren't for the Riggs family's background and Alexander's position as head of the family, I wouldn't have agreed to this marriage. I can't abide such a woman as my daughter-in-law!"

Margaret shook her head, brushed off her hands, and sipped her tea. After a moment, she continued, "Don't panic. Her willingness to marry you and live here shows she cares. Her fluctuating behavior is simply youthful inconsistency. Now, wait a minute…"

She paused, then said, "Have you… consummated your relationship?"

Ralph, stunned, stammered, "What do you mean?"

Margaret smacked his head. "Tsk! Don't be obtuse. You know what I mean!"

"Oh…"

Ralph understood and grimaced. "No! She's fierce and cold. I can't do anything if she refuses. She even warned me to keep my distance, though I doubt she'll reject me entirely once we're married."

Margaret slapped his leg. "Why be so honest when she's rebuffing you? Don't you know women often don't mean what they say? Years as a playboy should have taught you that! No wonder she treats you that way. She'll open up once she truly accepts you, my foolish boy!"

"Really?" Ralph was skeptical, shuddering at the memory of Heather's coldness.

Margaret laughed, rose, and left. Ralph remained, pondering his mother's words. He reflected on his past conquests, realizing his usual tactics were ineffective with Heather, likely due to her kickboxing skills and strength. He felt a mixture of apprehension and fear.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Heather had an idea. She opened her door and called for a servant.

"Yes, Miss Riggs?" the servant hurried to her.

"Get Ralph…" She paused, noticing the daylight. Knowing she needed the right moment to confront him, she changed her mind. "Forget it. It's nothing."
