Listen to this chapter:

I had lunch plans with Melissa. Since she was busy, I drove to a restaurant near her law firm.

Melissa arrived in a suit, carrying a briefcase. She had been dating lately, had gotten softer, and looked rosy. โ€œSorry, I kept you waiting again,โ€ she said with a grin as she slid into her seat.

I propped my chin on my hand, studying her. Melissa looked puzzled. โ€œHave things tensed up between you and your husband recently?โ€

I shook my head. โ€œNope, itโ€™s only getting worse."

โ€œAre you really planning to get a divorce?โ€ Melissa asked, surprised. โ€œHeโ€™s the CEO of a public company. Are you sure you want to let that go?โ€

Melissa, as a lawyer, was always rational and smart, and she understood just how much I had gained from this marriage. Logically, as long as Jared hadnโ€™t pushed me away, I shouldnโ€™t be thinking about divorce.

It was true. Many believed that if a woman didnโ€™t work, she should cling tightly to her marriage.

In my previous life, I took that path but never made it work. I just ended up like a madwoman.

โ€œYeah, Iโ€™ve decided. Iโ€™m going to get a divorce as soon as I can,โ€ I said flatly.

โ€œBy the way, I dug up some stuff for you. Take a look,โ€ Melissa said, pulling out photos. โ€œTwo years ago, when Jaredโ€™s company got listed in Aurelia, Tracy was there with him. Their relationship is clearly more than business.โ€

I stared at the photos, feeling nothing, and gave her the phone back. โ€œThanks for digging this up, but it wonโ€™t do much.โ€

Melissa said bitterly, โ€œVictoria, are you sure youโ€™re giving up on your man and your fortune? If I were you, I would never divorce. Iโ€™d be scheming every day on how to spend his money.โ€

I used to think the same. However, what people chose depended a lot on their situation and values. I did blow money carelessly, but just on small stuff, not like Tracy, who spent smartly, like investing.

โ€œI donโ€™t even know how to spend money properly,โ€ I joked bitterly. โ€œI thought buying jewelry, clothes, and houses would make me happy. My garage is full of Cullinans, Bentleys, and Porsches, yet none of it brings me joy.โ€

Melissa was speechless at my unintentional bragging. She said, โ€œVictoria, are you sure you donโ€™t want this stuff? If you divorce Jared, none of this will be yours. Even if you want to drive those cars later, you wonโ€™t get the chance.โ€

I nodded. โ€œIโ€™ve thought it through. Whatโ€™s the point of having it all if Iโ€™m not happy?โ€

โ€œYou honestly donโ€™t know how lucky you are. Iโ€™ve dreamed of a life like yours,โ€ Melissa sighed, rubbing her forehead.

She made me laugh.

Melissa asked, โ€œAfter your divorce, youโ€™ll be stuck living the same tough life I have. Are you okay with that?โ€

โ€œJared should give me a portion of his money. My life wonโ€™t be that bad,โ€ I replied, full of confidence.

Melissa said with a wicked grin, โ€œFine, then you can take his money and find yourself a few young guys.โ€

โ€œSounds great,โ€ I replied, grinning.

We had a pleasant meal, and Melissa told me that she and Zachary were doing well. I also asked about Nathan. She said he had been busy with some government projects, and his career was really taking off.

Melissa rested her chin in her hand and stared at me blankly. โ€œVictoria, I never thought a beautiful face could be a kind of resource, but now, seeing you, I realize beauty is something rare.

Chapter 160

Jared married you for your beauty. Nathan couldnโ€™t stop thinking about you because of yourโ€ฆ

future, you donโ€™t have to worry about that,โ€

I smiled and said, โ€œThanks. Youโ€™re beautiful as well."

โ€œNo, youโ€™re different from other women. They all have a similar kind of beauty, but your delicate and elegant kind is rare,โ€ Melissa said.

I shook my head and said, โ€œI hope that soon, youโ€™ll say beauty is the least impressive thing about me.โ€

Melissa couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œAlright, I get it. Youโ€™re a career woman now, full of ambition.โ€

โ€œIs ambition such a bad thing?โ€ I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Melissa shrugged. โ€œNot at all. Iโ€™ve always been pretty ambitious myself."

โ€œAmbition is just a fancy word for having big goals,โ€ I said, smiling.

Suddenly, a message popped up on my phone. It was from Clyde. He said Tracy was pregnant and asked if the child was Jaredโ€™s.
