I chucked the paper at Jared, and it smacked him in the face. In a split second, my mind picked it up and tasked it over. Mitj looked at me, all wide-eyed. โYouโre pregnant?โ
I thought Jared was meticulous, but shock could make anyone lose their composure. โLook at the name, teary,โ I coldly reminded him.
Jared finally noticed it was Tracyโs name on the paper. His brows furrowed, and then, totally baffled, he asked, โWhy do you...?โ
I had nothing to hide anymore. โI hired a detective to follow her. These are the photos he took, JaredโTracy taking supplements and going to prenatal checkups. With her?โ
Jared gave me a strange look, then set the paper down on the table and stood up.
I was shocked. Jared wasnโt panicking or looking away. He was way too calm. He might already know Tracy was pregnant.
โIsnโt that enough?โ I shot back, my voice rising.
Jared scoffed, disbelief all over his face. โYou seriously think thatโs my kid?โ
โIsnโt it?โ I retorted. In my previous life, Tracy had an abortion, and it was Jaredโs kid. Otherwise, he wouldnโt feel so guilty and try to brush it up to her.
โOf course not,โ Jared said, shoving his hands in his pockets and frowning at me. โMe and Tracy? We never even got that far. That kidโs definitely not mine.โ
I shot my eyes wide open, blurting out, โDonโt give me that.โ
Jared saw how upset I was and lowered his voice, sounding serious. โIโm telling you the truth. Why is it so hard for you to believe me?โ
โAnd whose child is it?โ I was shocked. I thought I had found the key to make Jared feel guilty and divorce me with money. But now, I was confused about what was happening.
Jared stayed calm. โAs far as I know, she already had a boyfriend before she came back to the country. So, the kidโs probably his.โ
โBut werenโt you into each other? I just canโt believe nothing ever happened between you.โ I blurted out, panic rising as my whole plan started to unravel.
โWe were just admiring each other, thatโs all. There was nothing physical between us,โ Jared said, sounding a bit frustrated. โStop overthinking things. From now on, I want us to at least have some basic trust.โ
โYeah, right. Like Iโd ever believe you,โ I shot back through gritted teeth.
Jared looked at me, all flustered, and to my surprise, he actually smiled. His eyes softened as he tried to soothe me. โCome on, Victoria, isnโt that enough drama for one day? I know youโre only this upset because you care."
โDonโt touch me,โ I snapped, jerking away the moment his fingers brushed my arm.
Jaredโs hand froze in midair, frustration clouding his face. โVictoria, are you seriously still going to make a scene?โ
โYouโve already cheated emotionally. Youโre not innocent anymore,โ I shot back, locking eyes with him.
Jared paused for a couple of seconds, then bit his lip. โAnd you? Havenโt you been crossing the line with Nathan?โ
My breath hitched. So Jared really did suspect something between me and Nathanโฆ
Jared looked genuinely disappointed. โVictoria, letโs just call it even. I wonโt dig into whateverโs going on with you and Nathan, and you let the Tracy stuff go, alright?โ
โNo way.โ I insisted on settling each issue separately. Itโs only a matter of time and accounting for it.
