Listen to this chapter:

I chucked the paper at Jared, and it smacked him in the face. In a split second, my mind picked it up and tasked it over. Mitj looked at me, all wide-eyed. โ€œYouโ€™re pregnant?โ€

I thought Jared was meticulous, but shock could make anyone lose their composure. โ€œLook at the name, teary,โ€ I coldly reminded him.

Jared finally noticed it was Tracyโ€™s name on the paper. His brows furrowed, and then, totally baffled, he asked, โ€œWhy do you...?โ€

I had nothing to hide anymore. โ€œI hired a detective to follow her. These are the photos he took, Jaredโ€”Tracy taking supplements and going to prenatal checkups. With her?โ€

Jared gave me a strange look, then set the paper down on the table and stood up.

I was shocked. Jared wasnโ€™t panicking or looking away. He was way too calm. He might already know Tracy was pregnant.

โ€œIsnโ€™t that enough?โ€ I shot back, my voice rising.

Jared scoffed, disbelief all over his face. โ€œYou seriously think thatโ€™s my kid?โ€

โ€œIsnโ€™t it?โ€ I retorted. In my previous life, Tracy had an abortion, and it was Jaredโ€™s kid. Otherwise, he wouldnโ€™t feel so guilty and try to brush it up to her.

โ€œOf course not,โ€ Jared said, shoving his hands in his pockets and frowning at me. โ€œMe and Tracy? We never even got that far. That kidโ€™s definitely not mine.โ€

I shot my eyes wide open, blurting out, โ€œDonโ€™t give me that.โ€

Jared saw how upset I was and lowered his voice, sounding serious. โ€œIโ€™m telling you the truth. Why is it so hard for you to believe me?โ€

โ€œAnd whose child is it?โ€ I was shocked. I thought I had found the key to make Jared feel guilty and divorce me with money. But now, I was confused about what was happening.

Jared stayed calm. โ€œAs far as I know, she already had a boyfriend before she came back to the country. So, the kidโ€™s probably his.โ€

โ€œBut werenโ€™t you into each other? I just canโ€™t believe nothing ever happened between you.โ€ I blurted out, panic rising as my whole plan started to unravel.

โ€œWe were just admiring each other, thatโ€™s all. There was nothing physical between us,โ€ Jared said, sounding a bit frustrated. โ€œStop overthinking things. From now on, I want us to at least have some basic trust.โ€

โ€œYeah, right. Like Iโ€™d ever believe you,โ€ I shot back through gritted teeth.

Jared looked at me, all flustered, and to my surprise, he actually smiled. His eyes softened as he tried to soothe me. โ€œCome on, Victoria, isnโ€™t that enough drama for one day? I know youโ€™re only this upset because you care."

โ€œDonโ€™t touch me,โ€ I snapped, jerking away the moment his fingers brushed my arm.

Jaredโ€™s hand froze in midair, frustration clouding his face. โ€œVictoria, are you seriously still going to make a scene?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve already cheated emotionally. Youโ€™re not innocent anymore,โ€ I shot back, locking eyes with him.

Jared paused for a couple of seconds, then bit his lip. โ€œAnd you? Havenโ€™t you been crossing the line with Nathan?โ€

My breath hitched. So Jared really did suspect something between me and Nathanโ€ฆ

Jared looked genuinely disappointed. โ€œVictoria, letโ€™s just call it even. I wonโ€™t dig into whateverโ€™s going on with you and Nathan, and you let the Tracy stuff go, alright?โ€

โ€œNo way.โ€ I insisted on settling each issue separately. Itโ€™s only a matter of time and accounting for it.
