Chapter 291

Listening to Jaredโ€™s deep and gentle voice, I could tell he still doted on Yvonne. This child was lucky to be born into a good family and have a wealthy and loving father like Jared.

When we finally arrived, the car pulled up in front of a high-end residential complex. I glanced out the window, a little confused, and asked Jared, โ€œWhere is this place?โ€

Jared got out, took my suitcase for me, and told the driver to leave. Then he turned to me.

โ€œThis is your new home.โ€

With that, he led me into the complex. I took the key from my bag, retrieved the suitcase from him, and said, โ€œThank you for the ride.โ€

Jaredโ€™s expression stiffened a little. โ€œArenโ€™t you going to invite me upstairs for a bit?โ€

I smiled immediately. โ€œSorry, itโ€™s not convenient right now.โ€

Jared raised an eyebrow, his tone dripping with sarcasm. โ€œWhat if it had been Nathan who brought you here today?โ€

โ€œOf course, Iโ€™d invite him up for a cup of coffee. He went out of his way to see me off,โ€ I replied.

โ€œAre you standing guard over me, Victoria? Do you see me as some kind of threat?โ€ Jared suddenly flared up with anger.

I let out a soft laugh. โ€œMr. Holcomb, no need to get upset. I think defined boundaries after divorce would create a fairer situation for your future spouse.โ€

Jared glared at me in frustration. โ€œDonโ€™t give me these excuses. Youโ€™re clearly on guard against me.โ€

I shrugged. โ€œIsnโ€™t that reasonable?โ€

Seeing that I was completely shutting him out, not giving him even the slightest chance for anything ambiguous, Jared frowned and said, โ€œDidnโ€™t you say I couldnโ€™t afford to play? Victoria, youโ€™re the one who canโ€™t afford it.โ€

I was taken aback.

Jared went on, โ€œAnyway, it doesnโ€™t matter who you play with, does it? Why canโ€™t it be me?โ€

I stared at him in shock. โ€œJared, do you even hear what youโ€™re saying? How am I supposed to play with you? And how much do you think youโ€™re worth?โ€

Jaredโ€™s handsome face flushed with embarrassment and anger. He bit his lip. โ€œWeโ€™re adults. How do you want to play?โ€

I understood what he meant. He was referring to sex with no emotional involvement.

โ€œSorry, but Iโ€™m bored with you. Thereโ€™s no novelty left,โ€ I said with a smile.

โ€œVictoria, are you trying to humiliate me?โ€ Jared was fuming.

I shook my head. โ€œNo, I just donโ€™t want to play with you anymore. You should leave. Iโ€™ll be on time for the meeting at the hotel tomorrow.โ€

With that, I turned and headed toward Building 7. Jared was frozen, looking genuinely pissed off.

When I reached the elevator, I still saw him standing there under the lights. I let out a cold laugh. Jared was really ridiculous. When I loved him, he ignored me. Now that I didnโ€™t, he clung on.

Perhaps Ryan was right that guys liked being mistreated.

They seemed to enjoy it even though it made them unhappy.

I could see it nowโ€“Jared was really chasing after me. Heโ€™d even dumped Tracy, the one heโ€™d doted on in my previous life. How ironic.

I took the elevator up to the 15th floor and unlocked the door. It was a fully decorated apartment ready for move-in.

It was a 170-plus-square-meter flat, and from the window, I could even see the beach. This location was amazing.

I stood on the balcony, breathing in the fresh air and admiring the stunning night view. I felt great.

That night, I actually had a wet dreamโ€“so intense that I even climaxed in it. It was unbelievable. I wondered if it was because I hadnโ€™t been intimate with anyone for too long.

In the dream, I couldnโ€™t quite see the manโ€™s face. He just kept working away.

When I woke up in the morning, I laughed at myself, embarrassed. That dream felt way too real.

I changed into a tailored suit and arrived at the hotel for the meeting at 9:30. Jared sat in the main seat, looking tired. His eyes were dark as he stared at me, like Iโ€™d broken his heart.

I focused on the meeting, ignoring Jaredโ€™s deep, probing gaze.

After the meeting ended and everyone headed off to lunch, Jared caught up with me in a deserted hallway. He stopped me and asked, โ€œVictoria, howโ€™s the new place? Do you like it?โ€

I nodded. โ€œYes, not bad.โ€

Jared leaned in, his voice low right by my ear. โ€œYou once said three million for one nightโ€ฆ Does that offer still stand?โ€
