Chapter 294
Tracyโs words didnโt faze me at all. I just gave a faint smile and said, โIโm not interested in whateverโs going on between you and Jared. If you just came here to talk about thatโโ
โMs. Murphy, I heard from Sally that Jaredโs been pretty down since the divorce. Do you have any idea why?โ Tracy cut me off.
I was taken aback, and then shook my head. โI donโt know whatโs going on with him anymore after we divorced.โ
โBut you loved him for seven years,โ Tracy said. โItโs quite a period in a personโs life. They say you loved him so much that you lost yourself. Ms. Murphy, I think I can understand how you felt, because I love him too.โ
Tracy lowered her head, stirring her coffee with a bitter smile. โJust like you, I love him so much that itโs almost making me lose myself. But his attitude to me has been unpredictable. I just canโt figure him out. I thought your divorce would be my chance, but instead, heโs gotten even colder, barely talks to me anymore.โ
Seeing Tracy so wrecked and miserable because of love, I couldnโt help but feel a twisted sense of satisfaction. So, Jared didnโt discriminate when it came to breaking womenโs heartsโhe treated everyone the same.
โMs. Darwin, you should be saying all this to Jared, not me. Arenโt you worried Iโll just laugh at you?โ I gave a calm smile.
โIโm not afraid of it anymore,โ Tracy said, biting her lip. โI just want to know, Ms. Murphy, why did you try to take revenge on him after you got married?โ
โWhat are you talking about?โ I paused with my coffee, staring at Tracy. โAre you sure youโre not joking? Me? Iโm way too nice to play those kinds of revenge games.โ
Tracy ignored the sarcasm in my voice and looked at me seriously. โI donโt know what you did to pull him back to you, but I think your tricks are pretty shameless.โ
My mind was blown. I couldnโt believe what I was hearing. I doubt Tracy still had any shame left. โTracy, you were the one who came between me and Jared. I didnโt even make a scene with youโthatโs me being decent. I asked for a divorce calmly, just to save the dignity of both of you. So, tell me, do you think I was wrong?โ I shot her a cold smile as I spoke.
Tracyโs face darkened, but she managed a weak smile. โYou got divorced because your marriage was already a lost cause, totally stagnant. Staying together wouldโve just made you miserable.โ
โIf you hadnโt been messing around with him, Iโd still be stuck in the fantasy he spun for me. Who are you to say I wasnโt happy?โ I shot back coldly.
Tracy didnโt know how to retort. Then she let out a sigh. โI guess I underestimated you and overestimated myself. I thought you two split because the love was gone, but I never expected Jared to suddenly do a 180 and try to get you back after the divorce. Doesnโt that mean he still has feelings for you?โ
โWho are you to ask me that? His girlfriend? Or the woman he never dared to call his own?โ I shot back, my tone cutting.
Tracyโs face went ghostly pale. She looked visibly uncomfortable. โI just want to figure out how you got him to come running back to you.โ
โBecause I donโt love him anymore,โ I replied with a cold smile. โHeโs poured so much into meโhis feelings, his money, and we even have a daughter. No guy wants to just let go after all that.โ
Tracyโs eyes went wide. Sheโs smart and pretty laid-back, but when it came to being sophisticated, sheโs just not in my league.
โJared himself canโt even explain what he feels for me, but at the end of the day, heโs just too hung up to walk away,โ I said.
I grabbed my bag and got to my feet. โChasing men seems to be your specialty, so knock yourself out.โ
โVictoria,โ Tracy suddenly called after me. I stopped and turned to look at her. She rushed over and said, โIf youโre not planning to take him back, then donโt play with his heart. Itโs not going to end well for you.โ
โIs that supposed to be a threat? Jaredโs got money and connections, and heโs backing my career right now. How is that not good for me?
