Chapter 294

Tracyโ€™s words didnโ€™t faze me at all. I just gave a faint smile and said, โ€œIโ€™m not interested in whateverโ€™s going on between you and Jared. If you just came here to talk about thatโ€“โ€

โ€œMs. Murphy, I heard from Sally that Jaredโ€™s been pretty down since the divorce. Do you have any idea why?โ€ Tracy cut me off.

I was taken aback, and then shook my head. โ€œI donโ€™t know whatโ€™s going on with him anymore after we divorced.โ€

โ€œBut you loved him for seven years,โ€ Tracy said. โ€œItโ€™s quite a period in a personโ€™s life. They say you loved him so much that you lost yourself. Ms. Murphy, I think I can understand how you felt, because I love him too.โ€

Tracy lowered her head, stirring her coffee with a bitter smile. โ€œJust like you, I love him so much that itโ€™s almost making me lose myself. But his attitude to me has been unpredictable. I just canโ€™t figure him out. I thought your divorce would be my chance, but instead, heโ€™s gotten even colder, barely talks to me anymore.โ€

Seeing Tracy so wrecked and miserable because of love, I couldnโ€™t help but feel a twisted sense of satisfaction. So, Jared didnโ€™t discriminate when it came to breaking womenโ€™s heartsโ€“he treated everyone the same.

โ€œMs. Darwin, you should be saying all this to Jared, not me. Arenโ€™t you worried Iโ€™ll just laugh at you?โ€ I gave a calm smile.

โ€œIโ€™m not afraid of it anymore,โ€ Tracy said, biting her lip. โ€œI just want to know, Ms. Murphy, why did you try to take revenge on him after you got married?โ€

โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€ I paused with my coffee, staring at Tracy. โ€œAre you sure youโ€™re not joking? Me? Iโ€™m way too nice to play those kinds of revenge games.โ€

Tracy ignored the sarcasm in my voice and looked at me seriously. โ€œI donโ€™t know what you did to pull him back to you, but I think your tricks are pretty shameless.โ€

My mind was blown. I couldnโ€™t believe what I was hearing. I doubt Tracy still had any shame left. โ€œTracy, you were the one who came between me and Jared. I didnโ€™t even make a scene with youโ€“thatโ€™s me being decent. I asked for a divorce calmly, just to save the dignity of both of you. So, tell me, do you think I was wrong?โ€ I shot her a cold smile as I spoke.

Tracyโ€™s face darkened, but she managed a weak smile. โ€œYou got divorced because your marriage was already a lost cause, totally stagnant. Staying together wouldโ€™ve just made you miserable.โ€

โ€œIf you hadnโ€™t been messing around with him, Iโ€™d still be stuck in the fantasy he spun for me. Who are you to say I wasnโ€™t happy?โ€ I shot back coldly.

Tracy didnโ€™t know how to retort. Then she let out a sigh. โ€œI guess I underestimated you and overestimated myself. I thought you two split because the love was gone, but I never expected Jared to suddenly do a 180 and try to get you back after the divorce. Doesnโ€™t that mean he still has feelings for you?โ€

โ€œWho are you to ask me that? His girlfriend? Or the woman he never dared to call his own?โ€ I shot back, my tone cutting.

Tracyโ€™s face went ghostly pale. She looked visibly uncomfortable. โ€œI just want to figure out how you got him to come running back to you.โ€

โ€œBecause I donโ€™t love him anymore,โ€ I replied with a cold smile. โ€œHeโ€™s poured so much into meโ€“his feelings, his money, and we even have a daughter. No guy wants to just let go after all that.โ€

Tracyโ€™s eyes went wide. Sheโ€™s smart and pretty laid-back, but when it came to being sophisticated, sheโ€™s just not in my league.

โ€œJared himself canโ€™t even explain what he feels for me, but at the end of the day, heโ€™s just too hung up to walk away,โ€ I said.

I grabbed my bag and got to my feet. โ€œChasing men seems to be your specialty, so knock yourself out.โ€

โ€œVictoria,โ€ Tracy suddenly called after me. I stopped and turned to look at her. She rushed over and said, โ€œIf youโ€™re not planning to take him back, then donโ€™t play with his heart. Itโ€™s not going to end well for you.โ€

โ€œIs that supposed to be a threat? Jaredโ€™s got money and connections, and heโ€™s backing my career right now. How is that not good for me?
