Chapter 329

Ryan stood there, his eyes full of helplessness. โ€œYou like guys like him?โ€

Even though Ryanโ€™s expression tugged at my heart, I still nodded without mercy. โ€œYeah, heโ€™s a good man.โ€

โ€œNo wonder he was at your place that day, taking a shower and cooking for you.โ€ Ryanโ€™s voice faded as he lowered his gaze, and then tears fell from his face.

I stared at him and couldnโ€™t believe Ryan was so fragile. He was crying just because I told him I had a boyfriend. I thought that guys werenโ€™t supposed to cry unless they were heartbroken.

โ€œRyan.โ€ I had no idea how to make him feel better.

โ€œDoes he like you, or is it just because youโ€™re pretty?โ€ Ryanโ€™s eyes shimmered with tears as he looked at me. โ€œVictoria, donโ€™t trust guys so easily. Sometimes they just want to mess around.โ€

โ€œWhat about you?โ€ I asked, my voice turning cold.

Ryan paused, then said in a low voice, โ€œThe first time I saw you, it was your looks that drew me in. After working with you, I realized you had a graceful aura, like those classy girls from rich families I know.โ€

Maybe it was because I lived a privileged life in my previous life, but when it came to love, I ended up losing. And now, I should change myself and face the challenges of life.

Because I knew how precious life was, I learned to keep my emotions steady and keep things to myself. I was all about leveling up myself, not wasting a single second on people who didnโ€™t deserve it.

In my previous life, I liked playing cards with a bunch of wealthy socialites. Weโ€™d complain about men, vent about life, gossip about everything, and I even got obsessed with fortune-telling, running around to every famous church, just chasing a little peace of mind.

I worshipped every god out there, but in the end, I still got pissed off to death. It turned out that praying to gods didnโ€™t help as much as working on yourself. Guess that was what enlightenment meant.

โ€œThanks. No oneโ€™s ever said anything like that about me before,โ€ I replied, genuinely touched. As the elevator doors opened, I strode inside.

Ryan followed me in. โ€œDo I have no appeal to girls?โ€ Ryan muttered beside me, sounding a little bitter.

I shot him a sideways glance, sizing him up. โ€œNot at all. For girls your age, youโ€™re perfect for them.โ€

Ryan gave a very wry smile, teasing himself. โ€œCome on, donโ€™t kid me. In your heart, Iโ€™m just naive, right?โ€

I couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œItโ€™s not that bad. Youโ€™re just really young and kind of clueless about the world. But honestly, that innocent vibe is part of what makes you so appealing.โ€

โ€œI canโ€™t make you feel safe, and we canโ€™t even find common ground,โ€ Ryan said, defeated. โ€œBet you think Iโ€™m boring.โ€

I countered temperately, โ€œYouโ€™re a good guy, but weโ€™re just not right for each other. We can be friends, but not lovers.โ€

Ryan tried to take it all in, looking pretty down. โ€œYou want me to back off, but Iโ€™m not quitting.โ€

I wondered if heโ€™d ever been turned down before, being so clueless how to take no for an answer.

โ€œIโ€™ll go with you.โ€ Ryan started walking right up to my car. โ€œIโ€™m staying at your place tonight.โ€

I blinked in surprise. โ€œDonโ€™t you have an apartment nearby?!โ€
