Chapter 776
It was a little after six when Edward got a call around five and left the office ahead of me, saying he had to meet up with an important friend. He told me to go chill at his place and wait for him.
Iโd already switched cars. Edward had offered to get me one, but Iโd turned him down. Now that I had my own company, I could write off the car as a business expense, so Iโd splurged on a sleek black Bentley for myself.
As I stepped out of the company lobby, my car was parked in a special spot right by the entrance.
Just as I was about to open the door, a tall figure suddenly appeared beside me.
I instinctively spun around, my guard up as I stared at him.
There was a man in a black shirt and a black mask. Even with half his face covered, you could tell he was handsome, and that perfectly styled hairline gave him an air of quiet elegance.
โRyan?โ I blurted out, surprised.
โYouโre way too calm every time you see me now,โ he said, his voice laced with sarcasm. โIs it because youโve stopped hoping Iโd show up?โ
I thought he was being ridiculous.
โThatโs not something a married man should be saying to another woman. You really need to check yourself,โ I said coldly, not letting him get away with it anymore.
โMarried?โ Ryan suddenly held up a divorce certificate for me to see. โGuess what? Iโm not married anymore.โ
Seeing that divorce certificate, I was honestly stunned. โWait, when did you get divorced?โ
โSo, can we talk now?โ Ryan stepped closer.
I took a step back, noticing my staff all around. โLetโs get in the car. We shouldnโt talk out here,โ I said quickly.
Ryan actually listened for once, walked around to the passenger side, opened the door, and got in.
I bit down on my annoyance, turned, and slid into the driverโs seat.
Ryan ran his long fingers over the door handle, his voice as clear and easy on the ears as ever. โNew car? Did he buy it for you?โ
โNo, I bought it myself,โ I replied.
โYouโre the one running Voyage Inc.?โ Ryan shot me a sideways glance. It was strangeโafter just three months apart, he suddenly felt unfamiliar to me.
Ryan had that wild, dangerous vibe, like a young predator on the prowl, and his presence put me on edge.
โYeah,โ I replied, keeping my eyes on the road.
โDid he help you set up this company? Heโs really looking out for you, huh?โ Ryan didnโt even bother with โUncle Ryanโ anymoreโhe just called him โhe.โ
โRyan, did you need something from me?โ I asked calmly.
โNothing in particular. I just happened to be in town on business and thought Iโd stop by to see you,โ Ryan replied, his voice calm but with a hint of madness, every word carrying a hidden meaning.
โWhatโs there to see?โ I said flatly, not wanting to give him anything to work with.
โIf you werenโt attractive, how could you have gotten someone as self-disciplined as him to fall for you?โ Ryan stared at me boldly.
With that black mask covering half his face, the sharp lines above his brow looked even more striking, and those eyesโdark as deep poolsโwere dangerously captivating.
โJust get to the point. If you donโt have anything important to say, Iโll let you out up ahead,โ I said, turning the wheel and pulling into a spot by the curb as I spoke.
โVic, Iโve never seen you act so cold before,โ Ryan said, his face suddenly clouded with sadness and hurt. โThe Vic I remember was always fiery, passionate, and so friendly to everyone.โ
โPeople change. Itโs normal that Iโve changed too,โ I said, my tone cool and distant.
โYou didnโt end up marrying him. I heard from Grandpa that you two arenโt planning on tying the knot anymore,โ Ryan said, suddenly leaning in, his eyes burning with a hint of crazed joy. โIs it because of me? Was it because I begged you not to get married, so you really didnโt?โ
