Chapter 46

Jayden clenched his fist. His voice was hoarse as he said, "He's in a coma."

Sophia replied impatiently, "Joshua has been in a coma three or four times a week now. I don’t have time for his drama. I’m busy. As long as Joshua isn’t dead, don’t call me again."

Jayden tightened his grip on the phone, frustration evident in his tone. "Joshua loves you so much and has sacrificed everything for you. Why can’t you—"

Before he could finish, Sophia hung up.

A sharp pain pierced my chest. I fully realized she didn’t care about my life anymore.

Jayden stood a short distance from the hospital bed. When he looked at me, his eyes were filled with sorrow. After a moment of silence, he called Sophia again.

This time, the phone rang for what felt like an eternity before she answered. "Jayden, didn’t I make myself clear earlier?"

"Ferlyn committed suicide by jumping off a building."

Sophia was taken aback. In her mind, Ferlyn was a petty and unreasonable woman. It was hard for her to imagine that someone like that would take her own life.

She tightened her grip on the phone, and the impatience vanished from her expression.

"Why?"

Why did Ferlyn commit suicide? A woman like her would never take her own life. Suddenly, she remembered the day Ferlyn had caused a scene at Holmes Group.

Ferlyn had said, “Sophia, this is all my fault. If I hadn’t been so foolish, I wouldn’t have been scammed out of 230 thousand dollars. They threatened me, saying I had ten days to pay it back or I’d be dead.”

Sophia had always thought that was just a ploy by Joshua and Ferlyn to extort money from her. She had dismissed them, insisting it wasn’t her problem and that the PR department would handle it.

She never imagined that Ferlyn had truly been scammed.

“I don’t know. If you have time, come to the hospital and check on Joshua,” Jayden said before hanging up.

Although Jayden wished for Joshua to quickly divorce Sophia so he could move on, he knew that without intervention, it would be difficult for Joshua to wake from his coma.

Later that day, Sophia rushed to the hospital and found me lying unconscious on the bed, pale and unresponsive.

She approached slowly, calling out softly, “Joshua?”

I heard her but didn’t have the strength to respond.

When I finally regained consciousness two days later, I saw Sophia sitting beside me, gently applying a damp cotton swab to my cracked lips.

I blinked in confusion and asked, “Sophia, where’s my mom?”

Her hand paused mid-motion before she finished tending to my lips. She settled back into her chair.
