Chapter 50
Juliette ignored Jayden's attempt to stop her. Instead, she gave me a meaningful look and said, "Evil people get what they deserve. We'll see." The next second, the door to the hospital room was suddenly pushed open. Sophia had returned.
Sophia's gaze fell on the woman in the room, and her brow furrowed slightly. "What are you doing here?"
Sophia thought she recognized this woman. She was part of the group that helped Joshua fake his illness before…
Juliette raised an eyebrow and replied icily, "I'm a doctor. I'm here to change his medication."
Sophia's face darkened. She said curtly, "It's just a little mental shock. There's no need to make such a big fuss."
Without waiting for a response, she brushed past Juliette and Jayden and picked up the phone she'd left on the bedside table. Holding the phone, she looked straight at me. "Joshua, you're a married man. You should know to keep your distance from women with ulterior motives."
Before I could defend myself, Juliette's irritated voice cut in. "Are you talking about me?"
Sophia didn't answer her. She simply fixed her gaze on me and asked, "What do you say?"
"Alright," I said hoarsely, agreeing.
There was nothing between Juliette and me. Keeping my distance from her, avoiding unnecessary trouble that could affect her, was the right thing to do. Juliette shot me an angry glare before turning to Sophia, sneering sarcastically. "A scumbag like you with a woman like her. What a perfect match." She picked up the discarded IV bottle and strode out of the room.
Sophia stood still, her eyes lingering on Juliette's retreating figure for a moment before turning back to me. Her gaze was dark and inscrutable. "What's your relationship with her?"
"Nothing."
I noticed her brow tighten slightly. She was clearly skeptical, but the truth was, Juliette and I had long since become strangers.
Sophia let out a mocking laugh, her gaze growing colder and more contemptuous. "If there's really nothing between Joshua and that woman, why does she hate him so much? She hates him but still comes to change his medicine. If she doesn't still have feelings for him, then why did she do that?" she thought.
Her fingers brushed against her side as she said, "Joshua, remember what I just said. You're a married man. Don't let any unpleasant rumors spread. I have something to do. I'm leaving now."
With her phone in hand, Sophia left in a hurry.
After Sophia was gone, Jayden silently pulled the blanket over me. "Get some rest."
I nodded wearily and slowly closed my eyes. It didn't matter; I was dying anyway. I just had to endure it a little more, and it would all be over. When I died, they would all be sad.
Sophia arrived at noon the next day. She walked into the hospital room wearing sunglasses. "Joshua, the dead can't come back to life. You've been evading this for days. It's time you learned to accept reality."
My body stiffened as I turned to look at her. "Where did you bury my mom?"
"Restland Cemetery," Sophia said indifferently. After a brief pause, she added, "Do you want to go see her?"
I nodded lightly. I got up from the bed and went to the bathroom to change into fresh clothes. After packing up my belongings, I followed her out of the hospital.
On the way to Restland Cemetery, light rain began to fall. The drizzle was soft but relentless, adding a somber heaviness to the world around us. Sophia glanced at me from the corner of her eye and asked softly, "Do you want to move your dad's remains there too?"
