Chapter 100: She Is Mine

Ericko never expected Maggie's involvement, nor did he anticipate Nathael learning about that night so quickly. However, on reflection, it wasn't surprising.

Nathael had previously discussed the Chronopolis project with him, mentioning potential setbacks. Ericko hadn't pressed for details; their long-standing friendship wouldn't be jeopardized by a project. Later, he heard Nathael might choose the Camerons, the reason being a woman.

At the time, Ericko considered this woman a mere means to an end. He hadn't anticipated she would become his sister within a month.

Ericko's gentle eyes remained unchanged, yet he felt a surge of pride. No wonder she possessed such skills. It was Maggie; of course, it wasn't surprising. Nana had similar abilities; many boys vied for her attention in their youth.

Seeing Ericko's prolonged gaze at the photo, Nathael's eyes darkened, suppressed anger resurfacing. Within seconds, Ericko composed himself, returned the phone, and softly asked, "What's wrong?"

Nathael's gaze was icy as he asked, "Do you like her?"

Ericko remained calm, meeting Nathael's gaze unflinchingly. He uttered two words: "I do."

Jimmy, observing from the sidelines, wore an expression of cynical amusement.

Nathael frowned. "I've never heard you mention that."

Ericko didn't answer directly but looked at Nathael intently. "Maggie is the person you like." It wasn't a question, but a statement.

He'd heard rumors linking several of Nathael's abandoned projects to a woman. Although discreet, such gossip circulated within their circles. He hadn't paid much attention before, never imagining Nathael would aspire to be his brother-in-law.

Honestly, Ericko saw nothing inherently wrong with Nathael. However, Nathael was calculating and shrewd. With him, Maggie might lose everything. Still, Nathael was preferable to the unpredictable and ruthless Jimmy.

The mention of Maggie's name grated on him. Nathael chuckled coldly, his black eyes fixed on Ericko.

Ericko smiled, studying him. "Why didn't you pursue her when she was with Joseph?"

Nathael's lips curled into a menacing smirk. "How do you know I didn't?"

Ericko simply nodded. "Then let's see who wins." Before Nathael could respond, he turned and left.

He had no intention of explaining his relationship with Maggie. Having been unjustly punched, he sought recompense.

After Ericko's departure, Nathael withdrew his gaze, lit a cigarette, and held it in his mouth. His eyes were dark and gloomy; he felt despondent.

Ericko's arrival had preempted his investigation into Joseph. She truly couldn't remain still for a moment!

Considering Ericko's words, Nathael's eyes grew even darker. He'd considered winning her, but how could he succeed? A hint of self-mockery flickered in his eyes.

She seemed to harbor a deep aversion to him; his actions consistently proved wrong. Perhaps inaction would be preferable.

Initially, he'd accepted her happiness with Joseph. He avoided inquiries, preferring to admire her happiness from afar. However, she kept appearing before him.

Nathael was reluctant to admit it, but his subconscious actions mirrored his desires, despite a conscious lack of pursuit.

For instance, he'd intentionally disrupted Cameron's projects, hoping she would seek him out. He'd deliberately avoided clarifying the hotel incident, aiming to create a connection. Even after discovering Vanessa, he continued his behind-the-scenes role.

He hadn't done much, yet events unfolded unexpectedly. Each decision seemed selfless and justifiable, but a human heart cannot deceive itself. It was mere self-deception.

However, flaws in Maggie's relationship with Joseph offered a glimmer of hope. He couldn't bear to let her go after experiencing her tenderness. He'd rather sink in the illusion forever.

Taking a deep drag of his cigarette, Nathael looked up with clear eyes.

Jimmy stood beside him, whispering, "Don't take it so seriously. Ericko's overstepping. I've never seen any relationship between him and Maggie."

Nathael fell silent before slowly admitting, "I have." At Master Adan's birthday banquet, Maggie had been present, chatting happily with Ericko.

Jimmy paused, then smiled. "But why are you so fixated on Maggie? Plenty of other women exist."

The woman beside Jimmy leaned in, adding, "That's right, Mr. Harris. Plenty of fish in the sea. What kind of woman are you interested in? I can introduce you to someone."

Nathael remained silent, causing Jimmy to shift his gaze. He shoved the woman to the floor. His gentle expression vanished, replaced by a cold, ruthless demeanor; his peach-blossom eyes grew gloomy. "Who do you think you are? When did I give you the right to interrupt me?" The smile was gone, replaced by his ruthless and domineering nature, leaving the woman trembling despite her scratched palm.

"I apologize, Mr. Hansen. I was out of line I will never talk nonsense again!" Her earlier pride was replaced by fear.

Jimmy was a challenging companion. Frivolous yet ruthless and bossy, he possessed a notoriously terrible temper. One moment charming, the next, ruthless. Yet, countless women were drawn to him.

"Get out!" Jimmy's patience had evaporated. Her presence annoyed him.

"Mr. Hansen, I" She hesitated, but his ruthless gaze silenced her. She left, understanding the futility of staying.

After she left, Nathael and Jimmy resumed their conversation. Nathael chuckled self-deprecatingly. "With so many women, why can't you forget Maggie?"
