Chapter 133: Reunion with Old Friends

The sales representative smiled at the compliment. Before she could respond, Vanessa, standing beside her, spoke first. "But why do I feel like this piece isn't that great? Maggie's taste seems different from mine."

The sales representative's expression froze, unsure how to respond.

Maggie chuckled lightly. "What seems to be the matter?"

Vanessa examined the necklace. "In jewelry design, there's usually a principle of hierarchy, emphasizing one main gemstone. However, this necklace has four equally sized rubies cascading down—an uncommon, unorthodox arrangement."

Maggie found Vanessa's confident demeanor amusing.

"I'll take this one," Maggie said, intending to buy it for Mia.

Since Nathael had emptied her wallet last time, Maggie had secured payment for two design drafts. Otherwise, she would have felt powerless despite her efforts.

Vanessa spoke again, eager to assert her superiority. "Why don't you listen to advice? Although the rubies' color is good, the design is too unconventional. It's probably only suitable for deep V-neck dresses and not very practical. You might rarely wear it."

Maggie chuckled disdainfully, her eyes both charming and aloof. "Ms. Brown, do you buy everyday items like this? You're emphasizing practicality as if you're buying groceries. It's perfectly normal to match jewelry with outfits. Are you planning to wear the same necklace for a lifetime?"

Vanessa was taken aback, realizing her words exposed her own limitations. She clenched her fists, seething inwardly. She knew Maggie was right. People without money couldn't afford such things, and those with money didn't need to consider practicality. They wouldn't worry about matching outfits, maintenance, or resale value. Their purchases reflected mood and feeling—something Vanessa couldn't understand.

Emily smiled and turned back. "Ms. Annie said that if you really like it, she's willing to sell you the designs."

Vanessa's eyes brightened, relieving her embarrassment.

"All the designs?"

"Yes, all of them."

Vanessa instinctively glanced at Maggie, seeking approval. Joseph's gaze softened. "May I ask when we can meet Ms. Annie?"

Emily said warmly, "Ms. Annie is upstairs, but she's busy with design drafts. It might take a while."

Joseph relaxed, smiling at Vanessa. "Please select a few styles you like. Choose whatever you want."

"But wouldn't that be excessively lavish?" Vanessa countered, skillfully evoking sympathy from Joseph.

"What's lavish about it? You're my girlfriend," Joseph replied. "Don't I have the means to indulge you?"

They both glanced at Maggie. Maggie was speechless.

Vanessa selected jewelry for about thirty minutes. Joseph gracefully settled the bill. As they finished, footsteps echoed from upstairs.

Annie descended, accompanied by two assistants. Joseph stood. Vanessa, enthusiastically, said, "Ms. Annie, it's a pleasure to meet you." Annie nodded warmly.

Vanessa realized the warm reception might be due to their spending. No matter the designer's style, profitability was fundamental to a store's success. Vanessa approached Annie, but unexpectedly, Annie embraced Maggie.

"Hey, Maggie! It's been too long! I'm so delighted to see you in Misk City!" Annie exclaimed.

Vanessa was stunned. Joseph looked surprised.

"I'm in an exchange program and managing family affairs," Maggie explained. "But if you invite me, I'll be there."

Annie, known for her dedication to work, had been persuaded by Maggie to join the Camerons, where she became a top designer. They had collaborated closely and remained friends. Vanessa awkwardly tried to shift the conversation. "I had no idea Maggie and Ms. Annie knew each other. She never mentioned it."

Maggie smiled. "You didn't ask."

"Please have a seat. Emily, get some juice and cake," Annie said.

Annie sat next to Maggie. Vanessa observed Maggie's relaxed appearance: a loose beige shirt, long trousers, no makeup, freckles visible, hair casually pinned up, and oversized glasses. It was a different beauty—unique and captivating.

Joseph introduced himself to Annie. Vanessa followed, praising Annie's designs. Annie smiled and turned to Maggie.

"Regarding the 'Starry River' piece," Maggie said, "consider bolder white gemstones instead of the central stone. While the moon's silhouette is good, a large star might be abrupt."

"For the 'Sun God' collection," she continued, "replace the central stone with emerald or yellow gemstones for richer color. Reduce transparency and amplify the lustre. Also, pearls at the ends of the diamond jewelry would be a nice touch."

Annie considered this. Vanessa interjected, "I believe Ms. Annie's designs are already outstanding. No alterations are needed."
