Chapter 144 Actually, She
Maggie and Joseph were astonished for a few moments after hearing these words. He stared blankly at Nathael, wondering how he could utter such things. While hesitant to see Maggie choose Nathael over him, the benefits of her relationship with Nathael for the Camerons were clear.
Maggie fumed with anger. Joseph, that bastard, was a useless coward. He had treated her cruelly in her past life; why had his behavior changed so abruptly in this life? Was he out of his mind? Maggie couldn't understand his actions. After all, the Camerons were eager for her to begin a relationship with Nathael. What was he doing now? Was he trying to instigate a relationship between her and Nathael?
"Really, Mr. Cameron? Do you have any evidence?" Nathael asked gently, his gaze fixed on Joseph with renewed interest.
Maggie gazed at the man seated on the sofa. Due to the angle, she could only see his profile. Nonetheless, it was clear Joseph's comments hadn't affected him. Why?
Joseph's throat tightened; his mind raced. He had no idea what Nathael was thinking. However, already in a precarious position, he gritted his teeth and continued, "Although Maggie was adopted by the Camerons, she's always been ambitious. She initiated contact with Mr. Harris, hoping to secure resources for the Camerons."
"She said Mr. Harris liked her type, and we could use her to our advantage."
Maggie, furious, stood in the room. When did I say such things? she thought. The Camerons were truly awful people! Surprisingly, Joseph's method of driving people away proved more effective than his father's!
"What else did she say?" Nathael asked in a low voice, his captivating gaze emitting a dark and menacing aura that filled others with a strange sense of dread.
Joseph felt his throat tighten. He'd always considered Nathael similar to himself—perhaps more skilled and cunning—but more importantly, Nathael had the advantage of being born into the Harris family. However, for the first time, he saw a significant difference. Meeting Nathael's gaze seemed to erase all rationality, leaving only intense fear and tension.

"catch you in a compromising situation. Then we could use it against the Camerons for profit."
Joseph's words trailed off as the bedroom door opened.
"You're talking nonsense!" Maggie burst out, charging forward and landing a swift kick on Joseph. Her gentle features were now icy and threatening; her eyes blazed with anger.
Joseph was caught off guard. Having been violently beaten by Alex before, he lost his footing and stumbled to the floor. Whenever he saw Maggie, Joseph's expression changed dramatically. He mumbled, "So, you're here."
Joseph observed her, wrestling with a myriad of emotions. Had she slept with Nathael? How could Nathael be interested in her?
"Maggie, I know you're doing this for the Camerons, but you can't fool Mr. Harris. Come back with me," Joseph asserted, maintaining his facade. The situation had escalated beyond his expectations. He remained bewildered by his own words, but could only shift the blame onto Maggie to ease the tension between the Camerons and Nathael.
"I am acting for the Camerons, but my feelings for Mr. Harris are genuine as well. Besides, do you think Mr. Harris is easily fooled? Are you doubting Mr. Harris?" Maggie retorted coldly, rendering Joseph speechless. "I didn't mean it like that" Joseph glanced at Nathael, attempting to explain.
However, Nathael's gaze remained inscrutable. Instead of challenging Maggie's words, his dark eyes fixed on Joseph.
"Or perhaps Mr. Cameron still harbors feelings for me, so he's gone to these lengths to slander me?" Maggie stared directly at him. Her eyes were crimson and cold.
Joseph was momentarily stunned by her gaze. Despite its coldness, tears welled in her eyes, softening her expression.
"Did he bully you?" he asked.
In that instant, Maggie felt Joseph was behaving foolishly—one moment on her side, the next siding with Nathael, utterly bewildered. Recognizing this, Joseph's complexion paled slightly. He tore his gaze away from Maggie, saying, "Mr. Harris, I believe there's been a misunderstanding. I'll take Maggie away first."
Before Nathael could respond, Maggie chuckled.

"What authority do you have to take me away? Who do you think you are?" Maggie snapped, her tone far from polite, fueled by her anger at Joseph's audacity. "I admire Mr. Harris, and it's none of your concern." After saying that, she turned and dashed to Nathael, settling onto his lap with her arms encircling his neck. Tears welled in her eyes as she softly pleaded, "You won't cast me aside, will you?"
Nathael glanced at her and instinctively wrapped his arms around her waist, reassuring her, "I won't."
Joseph couldn't believe what he was witnessing. Maggie's demeanor shifted as swiftly as a page turn. However, what truly astounded him was Nathael's unexpected defense of her.
"Alex, kindly escort our guest out," Nathael said coldly, his tone conveying annoyance. "Mr. Cameron, please."
Looking at Alex, Joseph hesitated, his attention drawn back to the intimate figures on the sofa. He'd been severely beaten and hadn't said much since arriving, but right now, there was nothing to say.
"Mr. Cameron, please." Alex's tone became more serious, with a tinge of caution in his kind but formal demeanor.
Reluctantly, Joseph had no reason to prolong his stay. As he departed, his mind replayed the scene of Maggie nestled on Nathael's lap, their intimacy evident. She actually succeeded.
Once outside the hotel, Joseph remained seated in his car for a long while, deep in thought. While he had initially steered Maggie toward Nathael, he never anticipated her success. After all, a man like Nathael could have any woman he wanted. What made her special?
Meanwhile, after Joseph's departure, Maggie turned to Nathael and softly explained, "I didn't tell him, and I didn't plan to."
"Alright, I understand," Nathael replied calmly.
As soon as he finished speaking, Maggie's stomach rumbled. Her cheeks flushed slightly as she blinked at Nathael, remarking with composure, "Your stomach growled."
Nathael chuckled softly but didn't expose her. He asked gently, "What would you like to eat?"
