Chapter 198: He Deserves to Die

They strolled back leisurely, and Maggie felt pleasantly satiated after the meal. She glanced at them a couple of times, breathing a sigh of relief when she noticed nothing unusual in their expressions. After dinner, Maggie tidied the dishes, intending to wash them later.

Nathael slipped up behind her, embracing her and murmuring, "Let me handle that, so you can catch up with Leo." Leaning into his embrace, Maggie couldn't resist asking, "What did you and Leo talk about? Did you two fight?"

Archning an eyebrow, Nathael met her gaze directly. "Do you want us to fight?"

Maggie quickly denied, "How could you say that? I'm not that kind of person!"

Nathael remained silent, then, recalling Leo's remarks, lowered his gaze and whispered, "You are very close to him."

Maggie paused, momentarily speechless. In her past, manipulated by the Camerons, she had often felt Nathael was against her. Leo, however, had been her closest ally, even meeting an unfortunate end because of her. "I've grown used to it over the years; he's a significant part of my life," Maggie said softly, reminiscing. She and Leo shared a unique bond. Unlike Joseph, Leo felt more like true familyโ€”someone she could always count on and trust implicitly.

Nathael refrained from further questioning, instead brushing his cheek tenderly against hers, concealing his thoughts.

"Feeling jealous?" Maggie teased, blinking playfully.

"Yes, I am jealous," Nathael responded deeply, a hint of grievance in his tone.

Maggie was momentarily taken aback, not expecting his admission.

After some consideration, she leaned in and delicately kissed his icy, determined cheek. "He's not usually like this; he's simply trying to provoke you. Maybe he's worried I'll meet another Joseph." At the mention of Joseph, Nathael's narrow eyes grew gloomier. She had sacrificed so much for Joseph and the Camerons, enduring countless hardships and humiliations. Yet, how had they treated her in return? Merely as a pawn, without sincerity.

A man's voice resonated with cold fury. Though Maggie couldn't discern his murderous intent, she remained composed, meeting his gaze with cool determination.

Nathael held her tightly, his eyes squeezed shut, concealing his anguish. Once, he'd almost decided that as long as Joseph treated Maggie well, he'd ensure their safety. Now, the thought filled him with fear. If Maggie hadn't spoken up, if circumstances had been different, the Camerons might still be deceiving them.

Nathael finished the dishes and kitchen chores before joining Kevin to play chess. Meanwhile, Maggie brewed tea for them. Afterward, she practiced piano in the living room, while Leo browsed books in Kevin's library. The afternoon sun shone on the old house, the air filled with the aroma of tea and the pleasant sounds of piano music. Occasionally, Kevin's laughter and the rustle of papers could be heard. Maggie felt relaxed, free from the constant caution and calculations she'd endured with the Camerons.

In the evening, Maggie and Nathael said their goodbyes, while Leo chose to stay overnight.

"I need to return to the Camerons. Things have been chaotic there lately, with an unpleasant atmosphere. Even if I can't find a solution, I must confront it," Maggie explained.

Nathael nodded and had Alex drive her to the Camerons' home. Before getting out of the car, Maggie kissed his cheek tenderly, teasingly saying, "You have to miss me tonight."

Nathael narrowed his eyes, pulling her back for a passionate kiss. His voice was low and husky as he warned, "Don't tempt me."

Maggie stuck out her tongue playfully, then dashed out of the car.

Maggie grasped the implication, offering her support as they walked. "I visited him yesterday, hoping he could help the Camerons through this crisis."

Madam Cameron's eyes reflected urgency. Noah and Mary looked at each other from the sofa. Ronald and Olivia, descending the stairs, asked, "What did Mr. Harris say?"

Maggie shook her head, feeling disoriented. "He said his mother was very upset to learn I was with him. She'd originally wanted to grant his request to save the Camerons' reputation. But the recent dealings with the Luster Corporation have tarnished it."

"He suggested that supporting the Luster Corporation might anger Mrs. Harris and old Mr. Harris, harming the Camerons. And" Maggie paused, glancing at Ronald.

"And what?" Ronald asked deeply. He had visibly lost weight.

After a moment of silence, Maggie's heart clenched. "And he said the Camerons are at a dead end, that the best course is to minimize losses and endure." Madam Cameron's composure faltered.

Mary jumped up, wailing, "I disagree! If the Luster Corporation fails, I'll lose my investment! That's my life savings! How will I live?"

Ronald was silent for a long time before stating coldly, "Mr. Harris doesn't understand how much we've invested. Let's wait. There might still be a chance." Maggie sensed a strategy brewing.

"Ask Joseph to return as well; I have something to say," he declared.

Half an hour later, Joseph returned, visibly fatigued and with dark circles under his eyes.

"Maggie, I heard about your participation in the University's Piano Competition," Ronald said with concern.

"Yes, the preliminary round starts in two days."

"I plan to boost the Camerons' investment and sponsorship for the piano competition to garner more attention from viewers and media."

Ronald's words surprised everyone. Shouldn't they be discussing the Luster Corporation? It hadn't been rescued yet.
