Chapter 204: Are You Insane?
Maggie hesitated, wanting to ask more questions. But catching Nathael's teasing glance, she realized he wasn't going to tell her. She frowned, her lips forming a slight pout before reluctantly returning her attention to the video.
"I noticed there are numerous close-ups of my face in this video. Will that be an issue? I was planning on recording another close-up video," Maggie said, feeling uneasy.
"I'll have someone edit it later to remove those parts. So if Sierra tries to misuse the video, you can release the complete one to prove yourself," Nathael responded seriously. Maggie nodded. He understood her intentions. She had originally planned to use a different video, and hadn't considered video editing. This was better, she thought.
"Staying over tonight?" Nathael asked.
Maggie hesitated. She knew it. Blinking at him, she couldn't help but say, "I swear, you're always trying to tempt me."
"You got it right," Nathael replied, his lips curling into a mischievous grin.
Maggie pinched his cheek. After a moment, she decided to drop the act. "I'll go shower first."
"Sure."
Meanwhile, on the other side, Beth stood on her bedroom balcony, frowning at her phone. "Who are you? What do you want?"
"It doesn't matter who I am. What matters is that I'm here to help you," the voice replied, sounding relaxed and cheerful, though obviously altered.
"Are you sure what you're saying is true?"
Beth opened the latest message, clicked the link, and found photos, conversations, and transaction records. "What are you after?" she asked coldly, a glint of curiosity in her eyes.
"Just do what you think is right," came the response.
Beth had already made her decision. Switching topics, she asked, "What else do you know?"
The other person chuckled softly. "You're quite clever. I know quite a bit."
"Such as?"
"Such as knowing that Maggie won't stand a chance against you in the end."
Beth was momentarily taken aback, excitement bubbling up. But she knew not to trust an unknown person easily. "What are you trying to say?" Beth's fingers tightened around her phone.
"Maybe one day, you'll understand," came the enigmatic response.
The person ended the call. Beth wanted to ask more, but only a busy signal answered. Frowning, she reopened the link and studied it closely. A chill ran through her as she read.
A few minutes later, Beth called Nathael. He had just finished showering when he saw the incoming call. He furrowed his brows and went to the table to answer.
"What's the matter?"
His low, strong voice made Beth's heart race.
"Nathael, do you remember two years ago, a woman ended up in your hotel room? You were very angry when you returned," Beth said, cutting to the chase.
"What do you want to say?" Nathael's eyes held a mysterious depth.
"That woman is Nora Nelson. She's a college student. And it was Maggie who put her in your bed." Beth felt a rush of satisfaction. "Maggie has been deceitful from the start. She and the Camerons are cut from the same cloth. She's not genuine towards you at all. She doesn't love you! Nathael, I'm telling you the truth!" Her tone grew urgent. She envied Maggie and detested her even more. How dare she repeatedly scheme against him! She didn't deserve his love!
"Are you done?" Nathael's voice remained calm.
Beth hesitated. "I have evidence. I'll send it to you! Nathael, you know me, I never make empty claims!"
Nathael replied steadily, "Even if it's true, what difference does it make?"
Beth was speechless. She hadn't anticipated this response. Nathael's eyes were intense, his face cold and determined. "The fact that she's willing to invest time in me shows that I mean something to her." Beth took a step back, tears welling.
"Nathael, are youโฆcrazy?"
Nathael ended the call. The content Beth sent appeared. Nathael stared at the link before clicking it.
The first thing he saw was several photos of two women seated at a table by a window. One was likely Nora; the other, Maggie. Nathael remembered Nora's appearance from Alex's previous investigation. The initial photos showed mostly Nora's face, with glimpses of Maggie's profile. Later ones showed Maggie facing the camera, and Nora's back.
Nathael scrolled silently, his lips pressed together. When Alex investigated, he discovered numerous ties to the Camerons. Out of gratitude, he'd overlooked these minor incidents. Perhaps subconscious fear had also driven him to halt the investigation. But now, he had to face the inevitable.
Nathael tapped on the video. The camera zoomed in, clearly showing the women's conversation and actions. "Do you think Mr. Harris is easy to get along with?" The woman with an innocent look seemed somewhat anxious. Maggie slid a card across the table. "Dealing with someone as proud as him won't be easy, but stick to the plan." The woman accepted the card and nodded. Maggie added, "If you're not willing, you can end the cooperation anytime. But once you step into that room, there's no going back."
