Chapter 221: You Know How

"Mary, didn't you hear Mr. Harris?" Ronald's voice sharpened, avoiding her gaze. He hadn't felt so powerless in a long time.

Tears welled in Mary's eyes. Before she could respond, Joseph intervened. "Mr. Harris, aren't you going too far?"

Maggie almost chuckled. Now he's acting all sympathetic? she thought. Where was his compassion when Sierra blinded me and left me scarred? Where was his pity when he used me and strapped explosives to my body? How ridiculous! The biggest joke in the world!

Nathael locked eyes with Joseph, his gaze sharp and dangerous, a concealed blade suppressing its hostility. Joseph shivered, wanting to retreat, but forced himself to meet Nathael's stare. Tension filled the air.

After a pause, Nathael smirked, a cruel glint in his eyes. "If you want to do it on her behalf, be my guest."

Ronald's heart sank. Master Cameron could remain silent no longer. They knew Nathael's reputation; it wasn't a targeted attack, just bad luck.

Maggie's voice was soft, hesitant. Joseph remained silent, but Ronald spoke in a frosty tone. "Mary, you made a mistake. Own up to it. Don't let a momentary lapse in judgment harm the child." The "child" referred to Joseph and Mary's child.

Ronald and Master Cameron couldn't bear to see Joseph troubled, let alone their heir lose face. Mary became the sacrifice.

Tears streamed down Mary's face; her hands clenched at her sides. If Nathael's anger remained unresolved, it would affect not only the Camerons but also her future.

Maggie met Joseph's gaze; his expression was complicated. Despite this, she smiled back. It's easy to ignore others' suffering until you experience it yourself, she thought. Joseph wanted to defend Mary, but fell silent when the focus shifted to him. The Camerons projected morality and righteousness, but lacked integrity and courage.

Mary pleaded with her father, hoping for support, but Master Cameron avoided her gaze as he poured tea for Nathael. The sound of pouring water grated on their nerves in the quiet room. Mary's heart sank as she stared at shattered glass on the floor. She knelt and picked up the broken pieces.

Nathael watched the older woman's humiliation with cold eyes. Maggie stole a glance at his profile; he seemed unfamiliar, distant, and serious, showing no pleasure or irritation. She felt disoriented.

Noticing her gaze, Nathael asked in a deep voice, "What's on your mind?"

Maggie whispered, "I'm trying to figure out how to make you happy."

Ronald and Master Cameron glanced over; Joseph never took his eyes off her. Nathael smiled slightly, his dark eyes reflecting her image. He murmured, "You know how."

Maggie fell silent, blushing, uncertain if she'd misinterpreted.

What the hell, Nathael?! she thought. A moment ago, she'd felt helpless.

Mary's scream broke the silence. Maggie looked to see Mary on the floor, her fingers stained with bright red blood, glass shards embedded in her flesh.

"Ronald!" Mary cried, tears welling in her eyes.

Ronald, seeing Nathael's silence, said softly, "Don't stop."

Mary burst into tears. Her voice sharpened as she looked at Maggie with resentment and hatred.

Maggie softly suggested, "Nathael, maybe we should forget it. Aunt Mary didn't mean to target you."

Nathael remained silent, giving Ronald a displeased glance. Ronald apologized. "Maggie, you don't need to defend her. She's been too arrogant. If she doesn't learn a lesson, she'll cause trouble." Maggie remained quiet, secretly elated by this powerful ally.

Mary knelt, picking up the scattered glass. The smaller shards pricked her hands. The more she picked, the more embarrassed she felt, wondering how she'd face Maggie and the servants. Soon, her hands were covered in blood.

Maggie watched silently, coldness in her eyes. She felt Nathael was going too far; bullying someone in their own home felt wrong, yet she felt strangely excited. In our past lives, no one in the Camerons was innocent in the tragedy involving me and Nathael.

After more than ten minutes, Mary, unable to bear it any longer, covered her face and ran out.

Ronald turned to Nathael. "Mr. Harris, your relationship with Maggie is good news. I'm sorry about today. I hope you can forgive us."

Nathael's expression softened slightly. "To be honest, I disrupted Luster Corporation's plans first, Mr. Cameron. You don't need to apologize."
