Chapter 235: Wishes Do Come True

Table Mountain, on the outskirts of Aquapolis, was infamous for its treacherous landscape. Despite the danger, its peak offered a wide, flat spaceโ€”perfect for racing.

The mountain drew crowds, particularly wealthy young thrill-seekers, like sharks to blood. Their car slithered up the winding path.

Maggie was unusually quiet. She rolled down her window, leaning back in her seat, lost in thought.

As they ascended, the mountain road was silent under the cloak of darkness, broken only by the wind's whispers and distant animal calls.

The night air sent a gentle shiver down Maggie's spine.

Earlier, she'd lost herself in a whirlwind of alcohol, carelessly mixing various drinks. Now, she hovered in a haze, a blend of confusion and clarity.

After another thirty minutes, a spectacular scene unfolded. Luxury cars dotted the landscape, surrounded by scantily clad women, men with bold hair, wealthy individuals, and captivating heiresses.

Dimly lit, the space glowed with strung lights as vendors hawked beer and other beverages. Crowds gathered, discussing the race and debating the most attractive women. Amid the thumping music, a vibrant atmosphere materialized, almost like stepping into another world. Maggie felt an urge to race a few laps. She wasn't a professionalโ€”the Camerons had mentored her, but she'd primarily learned to drive to protect Sierra.

Sierra, though young, had a knack for trouble, especially with the Camerons' backing. Maggie had been in perilous situations where Sierra was targeted, and despite her best efforts, she'd failed to protect her the first time.

Each time, Olivia and Ronald gave her pitying, disappointed looks. Maggie was consumed by guilt, beating herself up. So, she decided to change, seeking advice and dedicating herself to improving her racing skills.

It was an unorthodox path, but it worked. Racing on Table Mountain became her escape, often teaming up with Leo for the thrill. It was raw and risky, every maneuver a gamble on the edge of danger. But with her natural talent, and despite a few accidents, her driving improved dramatically.

For a while, she avoided city driving, fearing an uncontrollable urge for speed. The rush and unpredictability had become oddly comforting during stressful times. But with the Camerons preoccupied and her plans disrupted by Sierra's actions, opportunities to drive had vanished.

Leo's car pulled up to the modification area, where a burly man in a tank top and gleaming chainโ€ฆ

โ€ฆMaggie hopped out of the car, leaning against the curb, grabbing two beers and tossing one to Leo with casual ease.

Exiting the car, Maggie drew attention, eliciting whistles from the crowd.

Tall and graceful in a plain white dress that accentuated her slender frame and porcelain skin, she captivated everyone. Despite the aloofness in her eyes, her beauty held them spellbound.

Unfazed, Maggie remained nonchalant.

Leo opened his beer, shedding his jacket and handing it to her with a gentle murmur, "You seemโ€ฆin aโ€ฆ"

Maggie fell silent before tilting her head back and downing the beer in one gulp.

The cold beer jolted her, surprisingly pleasant. In that moment, she just wanted to lose herself in it.

The quick drink left her with reddened eyes, glossy lips, and dilated pupils.

"I don't think I have much longer to live, Leo," Maggie confessed, a wry smile playing on her lips as she met his gaze. If anyone had to know, it was Leo.

Leo froze mid-sip, staring intently. "How long do you think?"

Maggie laughed softly. "Maybe thirty years? Pushing it, maybe two more?"

Her gaze drifted to the shadowy mountains, a sense of cosmic irony washing over her.

Leo paused before speaking, his words measured, "Was it the Camerons?"

"Yeah, it's a toxin called 'Dream Venom'," Maggie answered in a hushed tone.

Leo's eyes turned cold, devoid of warmth.

"What's your plan?" His gaze softened, his tone gentle. It was as if Maggie's words were a casual remark about the weather, not a matter of life and death.

With a faint smile, a touch of determination hardened Maggie's usually desolate face. Her almond eyes were piercing and cold. "Of course, I'll take the Camerons down with me. Five and a half years is plenty of time to dismantle them."

But what about Nathael? Maggie had been trying to push Nathael from her mind, but it was impossible.
